Northampton eased their League One relegation fears with a deserved 1-0 win at Mansfield.

Cameron McGeehan's second-half header secured successive wins for the Cobblers and condemned the hosts to a sixth straight defeat in all competitions.

It was a deserved victory for the visitors who were brighter throughout.

Tom Eaves wasted a good chance for Northampton after finding space inside the box in the opening seconds.

Sam Hoskins missed a 20th-minute penalty after Christy Pym had flattened Liam Shaw when he raced off his line.

Tariqe Fosu saw a long-range effort deflected wide as the Cobblers started the second half strongly.

But McGeehan headed home Mitch Pinnock's resulting corner to give Northampton a deserved lead after 55 minutes.

Jordan Rhodes had a shot saved moments later, before Nik Tzanev acrobatically saved an Aaron Lewis header.

Pinnock forced Pym into a flying save, before Rhodes was inches away with a header.

The veteran loan forward was then denied by a brilliant goal-line clearance from Jordan Willis with two minutes to go.
