Estevao, Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes were on target as Brazil beat Chile 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Rio de Janeiro.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have already secured a place at next year's tournament, but the win moves the five-time World champions up to second place with one match remaining.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro had an early header ruled out for offside as the hosts dominated possession at the Maracana.

They had to wait until the 38th minute to take the lead, Chelsea teenager Estevao scoring with a close-range scissor kick for his first Brazil goal, after Raphinha's shot was saved.

Chile defender Guillermo Maripan was sent off for a late challenge early in the second half, but it was downgraded to yellow following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

West Ham midfielder Paqueta came on as a substitute after 71 minutes and doubled Brazil's lead within 60 seconds, heading home Luiz Henrique's cross at the far post from close range.

The goal comes just two days after it emerged that the Football Association will not appeal against the decision to clear Paqueta of spot-fixing charges.

The hosts wrapped up the win four minutes later when Newcastle midfielder Guimaraes scrambled the ball over the line after Henrique's shot hit the underside of the bar.

Brazil are one point clear of Uruguay in second but 10 points behind runaway leaders Argentina, who beat Venezuela 3-0 in Buenos Aires.

Their final qualifier is against Bolivia in El Alto on Tuesday (00:30 BST on Wednesday).
