Angel Gomes joined Marseille in the summer and has scored three goals this season

Former Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes opened the scoring as Marseille moved top of Ligue 1 with a comfortable win over Brest.

The 25-year-old, who has four England caps, put Marseille ahead when his free-kick slipped through the hands of Brest goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki in the 25th minute.

It was Gomes' second goal in as many league games after he scored the winner away at Auxerre last weekend.

The hosts doubled their lead eight minutes later when another Englishman, ex-United forward Mason Greenwood, converted from the penalty spot.

Marseille were in control throughout and a smart near-post finish from striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made sure of the points nine minutes from time.

An eighth league win of the season takes Roberto de Zerbi's side a point above Paris St-Germain, who can reclaim top spot with a win at Lyon on Sunday.
