  2. Coote will not appeal dismissalpublished at 10:13 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Premier League referee David Coote has decided not to appeal against his dismissal.

Coote was sacked by PGMOL earlier this month following an investigation into his conduct.

A video emerged in The Sun of Coote making disparaging comments about former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Subsequently, photos were published, allegedly taken during Euro 2024 where Coote appeared to be sniffing a white powder.

Neither the video nor the photos were independently verified by the BBC. PGMOL said Coote’s position had become untenable.

Coote did have the right to appeal but the official has decided against that course of action.

PGMOL are continuing to offer support Coote, having previously said they were "committed to his welfare".

Neyland AFC are playing a game against their rugby counterparts Neyland RFC on Boxing day. Also holding a huge raffle with all proceeds from the day going to support one of the players, whose wife is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Should be a great occasion and a fantastic cause.

If Santa is passing N17 could he drop off a team leader. The players are giving everything at the moment but we lack someone who all players either look up to or fear. Also Santa, you could definitely take a few away with you and re-gift them to another club.

  6. 'Liverpool could have scored 12'published at 09:50 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

    Chris Sutton
BBC Sport football expert on 5 Live's Monday Night Club

Postecoglou is right to talk about injuries, but to go toe to toe with Liverpool with your best team is a big risk. When you have Fraser Forster, an excellent keeper but not great with his feet, and Archie Gray who is not a centre back, you are there to be shot at. To go up against Liverpool in the manner they did, he leaves himself open to criticism. They have lost 20 of the last 42, it is an issue.

The pressure comes on to Daniel Levy to give Postecoglou the players capable of playing in this way. The squad is stretched, they have not got enough.

Could he coach a different way? Yes, but he doesn't want to. He's about the longer term - if we keep doing this, we will eventually get there. But it could have been 12, the main criticism of Liverpool is that they were wasteful.

  7. 'Fans want to be taken on a journey'published at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

    Rory Smith
Chief Soccer Correspondent for The New York Times, on BBC Radio 5 Live

I totally understand the frustration of Spurs fans. It must be infuriating to know how Spurs can be, put four past Manchester City then not even a month later conceding six against Liverpool.

Is there a way of maintaining how good they are going forward while remaining solid at the back? Or is Ange Postecoglou right that to have one, you have to forgo the other.

Fans want to be taken on a journey and believe in something, but you never want to concede six goals at home. And a lot of us, if we see a manager saying they've done the right thing - we think, it kind of isn't.

I'll be going to see my local non-league side on Boxing Day. Local sides appreciate the boost at this time of year and I appreciate not having to travel far!

    Matt, Birmingham

Let's get a shout out of the team Matt! And if you're heading to see your local side on the 26th, get in touch and give them some love.

  9. How can Johnson get back in the team?published at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

Nottingham Forest v Tottenham (Thurs, 15:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Brennan Johnson has had to endure a spell on the bench and Ange Postecoglou explains what he can do to get back into the side: "Brennan just needs to keep doing what he's doing. I've had Deki [Kulusevski] there and he's done really well and scoring goals.

"It's about the balance of the team. It's about managing that load. We're already overburdening some of the players up there. Brennan will get his minutes."

  10. What will Postecoglou do on Christmas Day?published at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

Nottingham Forest v Tottenham (Thurs, 15:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Here's what Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will be getting up to on Christmas Day: "It's a family tradition. I'm on my own. They're in Australia in warmer climes with family. I'll give them a call in the morning and then I'll go about my day."

  11. Postecoglou on reaction to questions on Sundaypublished at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

Nottingham Forest v Tottenham (Thurs, 15:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou on his reaction to some post-match questions from the media after the 6-3 loss to Liverpool: "I wasn't angry, but I don't know many managers that bounce into interviews after a defeat and are all cheery.

"Fair to say I am getting tired of the same questions over and over and perhaps after a defeat it's easier to get a reaction."

  12. Bentancur returns from suspensionpublished at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

Nottingham Forest v Tottenham (Thurs, 15:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou on team news ahead of the trip to the City Ground: "From the game, as far as I'm aware no issues. Destiny [Udogie] was on the bench but wasn't 100% quite right and should be right. [Rodrigo] Bentancur is available after his suspension. That's kind of it for now."

  13. 'Spurs are so frustrating'published at 09:13 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2024

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club

Spurs are the most entertaining team in the Premier League - at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium you are guaranteed goals. Spurs fans want attractive football, but they are not even in the top 10. I get there have been injuries to the spine of the team, and they have lost Rodrigo Bentancur to suspension, but everyone has injuries. The big gaps Spurs allowed Liverpool, it made me upset. They are so frustrating.

Even with your best XI you can't go toe to toe with Liverpool. But he [Ange Postecoglou] is not going to change, he's not going to keep the media onside - and the majority of fans were still singing his name on Sunday.

You can listen to the Monday Night Club here.

I have a request for Santa ahead of the big day tomorrow. Please can Ange Postecoglou have a new goalkeeper, 2 centre backs and for the reindeer to take Richarlison away from Spurs to somewhere he’ll be effective again.
