Real Madrid say they are opposed to plans by their bitter rivals Barcelona to play a league match in the United States this season, saying the move “sets an unacceptable precedent”.

Barcelona and Villarreal are seeking permission from the football authorities to play in Miami in December.

Fan groups of the respective clubs have already threatened legal action if the plan progresses, and now Real have expressed their opposition to the move.

“Real Madrid would like to express to its members, supporters and football fans in general its strongest rejection of the proposal to play outside Spain the match…between Villarreal and Barcelona,” the capital club said in a statement.

“The measure, promoted without prior information or consultation with the clubs participating in that competition, violates the essential principle of territorial reciprocity that governs two-round league competitions (one game at home and the other at the opposing team’s), altering the competitive balance and granting an undue sporting advantage to the applicant clubs.

“The integrity of the competition requires that all matches be held under the same conditions for all teams.

“Unilaterally modifying this regime breaks the equality between contenders, compromises the legitimacy of the results and sets an unacceptable precedent that opens the door to exceptions based on interests other than strictly sporting, with a clear impact on sporting integrity and the risk of adulteration of the competition.

“If this proposal is carried out, its consequences would be so serious that they would mean a before and after for the world of football.”

It's been a tough evening for Osasuna front man Ante Budimir, working hard but with virtually no help. He gets the ball in the centre circle but is instantly mobbed by five Real players and the move breaks down.

They could really do with him being fit and on the pitch, but he's still going to be out for a while.

A rare chance for Osasuna to do something as they win a free-kick close to the left touchline. However, the delivery is a poor one and Real Madrid easily clear their lines.

The best moment of the game so far and it is a superb strike from Real Madrid's Eder Militao 35 yards out. He hits it brilliantly and it would've been a stunning goal. But Sergio Herrera dives to his right, with the ball bouncing just in front of him, but he palms it away from goal.

Vinicius Jr goes on a run down the left and gets to the byline and pulls the ball back to Kylian Mbappe. He shoots at goal, but is an unconvincing contact, followed by away goalkeeper Sergio Herrera fumbling the ball before gratefully grabbing it at the second attempt.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has only touched the ball six times so far in this match.

When Real Madrid have the ball, Osasuna have six defenders set up in a line along the 18-yard box. Dean Huijsen tries to find a way through but can only loft a pass straight out of play.

Osasuna have not shown the slightest hint of any attacking intent so far, but have frustrated the hosts in the opening 20 minutes.

Dean Huijsen, of ex-Bournemouth fame, tries his luck from 30 yards out and the ball bounces just in front of the diving Sergio Herrera who does well to parry the strike away from goal.

Kylian Mbappe looks to add some intensity and skips past two Osasuna challenges down the left flank, before Enzo Boyomo stops the promising run with a superbly-timed sliding tackle before the Frenchman could get into the penalty area.

Trent Alexander-Arnold fizzes the ball into the feet of Kylian Mbappe and he tries a fancy flick to get around defender Alejandro Catena, who has to concede a corner. But Osasuna defend the set piece well and can launch it to safety.
