This is the third FA Cup meeting between Gillingham and Charlton – the Addicks won the first 1-0 in 1933-34, before the Gills won 3-2 in a third round tie in 2003-04.
Charlton have won four of their last seven games against Gillingham in all competitions (D2 L1), including the last two, most recently a 3-0 victory in the EFL Trophy in August 2022.
Only Northampton Town (31) and Hartlepool United (30) have been eliminated more often at the FA Cup second round stage in history than Gillingham (29), although the Gills have progressed from three of their last four ties at this stage.
In their 6-1 win over non-league Cray Valley Paper Mills in this season’s first round replay, Charlton scored six goals in an away FA Cup match for the first time. The Addicks, however, have been eliminated in their last five ties against fellow Football League opponents.
