Michelle Agyemang scored her first Women's Super League goal of the season as Brighton secured a narrow win over Everton.
The 19-year-old striker, on loan from Arsenal, bundled the ball in from close range after brilliant work from Fran Kirby to create the 26th-minute chance.
While she starred for England during the Euros over the summer, Agyemang had not netted in the WSL since April - also against Everton - but her first of the campaign was enough to earn the Seagulls all three points.
The hosts dominated for much of the first 45 minutes but with things not clicking in the final third, the first chance fell to Everton.
Maz Pacheco's pull-back found Rosa van Gool but she shot tamely at goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
A minute later, Brighton were in front as Kirby won the ball with a superb tackle inside the Everton half, overlapped Kiko Seike and clipped a lovely cross to the far post.
Winger Rosa Kafaji got into a tangle as she came in to meet it but did enough to put the ball back into the six-yard box, where Agyemang was waiting to chest down and scramble home.
Although the final ball deserted Brighton on numerous occasions, they still had chances to add to their lead with Seike and Kirby both failing to really test Everton keeper Emily Ramsey when well placed.
And with just one goal in it, the visitors sensed the chance to snatch an equaliser as the home side's nerves grew late on.
However, Brian Sorensen's side were unable to create a chance of note and Brighton held on to make it back-to-back league wins.
Analysis: Past & present England heroes lift Seagulls
Given that manager Dario Vidosic made it clear he joined Brighton last year with the ambition to be WSL champions, failing to win either of their first two games of the season was a huge disappointment.
But two home victories later and everything looks much better on the south coast.
An assault on the WSL title may still be a way off but Brighton - in sixth spot but just three points off Manchester United - are building a team with immense promise.
At the heart of it are two England heroes - one in Kirby, who earned that status over many years, and teenager Agyemang, whose exploits in Switzerland have granted her such acclaim while still in the infancy of her career.
While Kirby has retired from international football, Agyemang still has years left to grow her legend.
In the here and now, though, it is Brighton benefiting with Kirby showing all the touch, creativity and weight of pass that have made her an all-time WSL great as she combined so effectively with Seike down the right.
Meanwhile, Agyemang is a marked woman this season after her Euros exploits and, while there is still so much room for development, she is playing with a maturity beyond her years.
As well as tucking away her only chance, she held up the ball well, used it smartly and never gave the Everton defenders a moment's peace.
Tellingly, in a game where Brighton ultimately had to battle to get over the line, Agyemang never shirked a challenge as she won a game-high 10 duels, while a success of three tackles were only bettered by Kirby.
With stars of England's past, present and future in their ranks, it's easy to see why the Seagulls have high hopes for this campaign.
