Luis Diaz netted his second goal in as many Bundesliga games as Bayern Munich won at Augsburg.

This was not a dominant demolition of the kind Bayern produced against Leipzig last week, but it was an encouraging display regardless as they dealt with Augsburg's attempts to come from behind.

A slow start gained momentum when they took the lead through Serge Gnabry, who headed home after a great delivery from England captain Harry Kane.

Diaz then slotted in Bayern's second on the stroke of half-time to make the task more difficult for Augsburg, prodding in from close range after Konrad Laimer dragged the ball back inside the box.

Augsburg would have emerged from the break feeling as if they could have made an impact after promising chances in the first half, but their hopes soon took another blow when Michael Olise sent an effort past Finn Dahmen to make it three.

The hosts were undeterred, though, and Kristijan Jakic pulled one back when he volleyed past Manuel Neuer to make it 3-1.

Mert Komur then expertly tucked one through two sets of legs to ignite a fightback and put Augsburg within one goal of levelling.

Bayern, though, manage to stymie any further Augsburg attempts - and realistically should have extended their lead - to earn the three points.

Elsewhere, former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag's tough start as Bayer Leverkusen boss continued as his side let their lead collapse to a draw with 10-man Werder Bremen.

Leverkusen led 3-0 but the hosts stunned their visitors with goals from Romano Schmid, Isaac Schmidt and Karim Coulibaly.
