Boss Rhian Wilkinson has not been that critical of her team since they drew 2-2 with Ukraine back in June 2024 and it's easy to see why the defensive lapses from her side have left her frustrated.

"I've said no excuses, that's what we do with Wales. It doesn't matter who is on the pitch we have to be able to deliver.

"We never had control of that game, and honestly it could've been 10-10, 5-5, they scored more goals than us. The sequence with those three goals, that's not football. I'm not proud of that performance.

"I don't mind losing, but we have to make sure it's because we're trying to do something. I think we got caught up in a transitional game, we're better than that. It's not even fun to watch, it's not our brand of football.

"I made a lot of changes, we had a lot of new faces. We gave them opportunities to come in and show us. They don't have the lungs to last for 90 minutes.

"It was just a bit frantic. We needed our senior players to help them in that moment and give them that confidence. We'll learn and grow from the game, but it's a frustrating one.

"I am not looking forward to watching that one back."

When Poland got into attacking areas they were very clinical. That was the difference between the two sides tonight.

I think maybe the intensity of the second-half was a little bit different to the first-half.

A lot of the goals we concede seem to come from our own doing.

The players are earning a nice little wage now, a lot more than what me and Kayleigh Barton were earning a few years ago, that is where the excuses do need to be eliminated.

They are professional athletes, it's high performance sport and that second half was really poor.

A stark reality check of what life without Jess Fishlock will be like for Wales.

There were bright spells and positives, but this is a seventh straight defeat.

Rhian Wilkinson said yesterday she wanted to be held accountable and the statistics at the moment make for grim reading.

This is their worst losing run since they lost their first 12 games as an official FAW side in the early 1990s.

This is their longest winless run, 11 games, for 22 years.

They’ve also conceded 24 goals in their last six matches.

To add context, most of those games have been against some of the world’s best sides, so we can be thankful that when the World Cup qualifying draw is made next week that Wales will be in League B as they bid to reach the finals in Brazil in 2027.

When you're constantly making the same type of mistakes it becomes an issue. The coaching staff and management can only do so much, and the players need to take responsibility.

There's only a six place difference in the FIFA rankings, they're on a similar trajectory to Wales as they were debutants at the Euros as well.

This was a really good test to see where we're at. We were in that game and some of the goals we've conceded were inexcusable.

That's 30 conceded in 11 games, they need to get back to basics and study their out of possession responsibilities.

Looking at the result 5-2, especially compared to the first half, there is going to be a lot to dissect.

“We are really disappointed with the result and performance.

“It’s not the Cymru we are used to seeing.

“It could have been 5-5… the manner of the goals conceded wasn’t good enough for a Wales side.

“It’s disappointing end to a good camp. Moving forward we’ve got to be better than that.

“It means everything to me to start for Wales and to get a goal is even better, but I am disappointed it’s come on the back of a defeat.

“I’ve got to keep pushing on so I can start more of these games.”

Wales have conceded 30 goals in their past 11 games.

The issues are clear.

Another defeat for Wales and a heavy one against a clinical Poland.

I think it's Charlie Escort that's beaten fairly easily, and you've got to ask questions of Olivia Clark getting beaten at that angle.

Loads of positives for Wales tonight with debuts and impressive displays for inexperienced players.

However, at the top end, Wales are still lacking as we saw in Euro 2025.

It doesn't matter how many positives there are if you concede five goals at home.
