  2. England's tournament so farpublished at 19:17 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

England got their Euro 2024 campaign under way on Sunday evening with a 1-0 victory over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.

Jude Bellingham's first half header was enough to secure the win, as England produced some fine football in the first half but faded somewhat after the break.

They largely held the Serbians at arm's length however to secure three points in Group C, putting them clear at the top.

It means a win over Denmark tomorrow will guarantee England a spot in the knock-out stages.

That's everything from Gareth Southgate and Kyle Walker.

Confirmation that Luke Shaw will not play tomorrow, while there were some interesting comments regarding Southgate's views on social media.

And it's nice to know that Walker's mum always says he plays well. That was very sweet.

  4. 'We maybe take wins for granted'published at 19:12 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

Gareth Southgate on winning the opening game of a Euros for only the second time and whether people forget England’s history: "I’ve been in this environment for eight years so I understand it all. It used to annoy me and now I’m ambivalent to it. Winning matches in tournaments is incredibly hard. In this tournament you’ve now got incredible support for all the teams in the stadiums as well which is a little different to the last two tournaments as well.

"We’ve had some good results over the years so maybe even we take results for granted, I should let the boys enjoy it more than they do. I hope they have a little bit longer than me! There should be more joy in it but it’s not my reality if I’m frank. My focus is to get qualified from the group, two tough opponents and two games to achieve that. I’m not looking beyond tomorrow night’s game at this moment in time."

On accusations of being too defensive after scoring against Serbia: "We want to play how we did in the first half an hour of the game. There are moments where you have to defend well as a team and when you don’t have control you have to show that other side. I think there are several reasons for why we didn’t and they’re the things we have to unpick.

"We didn’t set out to sit back, Serbia also came at us, they were a goal behind and had to take a different approach and are not an easy team to press. They get five players and are complicated to prepare to play against. To give as few opportunities as we did, we were really pleased with that aspect and we have to be better with the other aspect. We have to get both things right."

  5. England's secret weapon...published at 19:10 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England defender Kyle Walker on pickle juice: "I think it’s been around for quite a while. It’s just been highlighted when Kieran Trippier had the picture and everything like that. I don’t take it personally, I keep myself well hydrated. I’ve been very fortunate not to receive the cramps or anything. Football is developing and that’s something sports science think can benefit us at the late stage of the game."

  6. 'Shaw is progressing well'published at 19:08 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England manager Gareth Southgate is asked about comments from Erik ten Hag that Luke Shaw will not be available until after groups: "Luke is obviously an outstanding player. That’s why we’ve taken the decision to bring him although he’s not played for so long. I don’t want to put a timeline on it right at this moment.

"He’s progressing well. The balance he gives, the drive he gives, whoever plays with him down that side of the pitch he gives a different outlet. We’re adapting to not having him and having to find a different way."

  7. 'I have great admiration for Denmark'published at 19:06 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England manager Gareth Southgate on what he’s learned about Denmark from their opening draw against Slovenia: "That depends on whether they stay with what they did. Kasper [Hjulmand] is an excellent coach and he could well tweak things for each games. That’s the way the game is now. We look at the previous games as well and all the permutations that might happen. Denmark have normally been adaptable with him, I like how they play, I think the character of the players through the last Euros grew. I’ve always been an admirer of Danish football but this group I have great admiration for, the way they dealt with the last Euros. With a lot of respect going into tomorrow’s game, we know we have to be at our very best to win the game."

  8. 'My mum always says I have a good game...'published at 19:04 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

Both Gareth Southgate and Kyle Walker are asked how they deal with social media and the pressures it brings during tournaments.

Southgate: "There’s no point having a rule [on whether to ban social media in the camp] because young men are going to use social media in a positive way in the main, they’re going to search for things. When I was playing we read newspapers.

"I don’t do it [look at social media] and my world is a happier place when I shut myself off. It’s not good from a global perspective because I don’t have a clue what’s going on in politics or elsewhere but that’s what’s best for me. I think some of our players take a different approach.

"There’s more noise about any national team than there ever is a club team. Millions of people in your country, media coverage, social media, one guy writing a comment on social media gets put in a newspaper and that’s a story. It’s a different world, it’s not going to effect what I do.

"My job is to keep the players on track. You can drift and you can see that for a lot of them we’ve won our first game and this is how it is, that’s a strange experience for some of the boys, but it’s great we’ve got experienced players who’ve been with us. Our assessment of the game is the most important. We’re never slow to pull things up that aren’t good enough. That’s the most important view, the way we dissect the game."

Walker: "I don’t read it at all. I feel that we all can play football and it’s maybe the top 10% that’s going to separate you from being very, very good and average. If you have outside noise then people take it in different ways. I’d rather concentrate on what the gaffer says and what my mum says! She always says I have a good game and I take it from there really."

  9. 'Got to have quality and mentality'published at 19:01 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England manager Gareth Southgate on the mentality of his team: "I think it’s everything. You’ve got to have quality but in the end mentality, ability to deliver in the big games, that’s what we’ve been able to do over the last three or four years in particular. We’re better for that but have some players that haven’t had those experiences. The teams that win things, the difference in the end is all about that mentality."

On managing players’ work loads: "It is a decision we have to make, not just for tomorrow but whenever we play. What’s the right physical level for the group? What’s right for individual players? Players will benefit from having had the game [v Serbia], there’s been just about long enough recovery from that to help. We’ve got to balance whether to stick with what we did or change and refresh the team."

  10. 'Shaw won't be involved tomorrow'published at 18:59 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England manager Gareth Southgate on Luke Shaw: "Luke won’t be involved tomorrow, he’s on track for what we thought originally. He needs a bit more work. There are days when he needs to do more than the rest and needs to recover. He’s still in and out with the others and operating on his own programme as well."

  11. Shaw unavailable to face Denmarkpublished at 18:57 19 June
    Breaking

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

Gareth Southgate confirms Luke Shaw will not face Denmark tomorrow as he attempts to come back from injury.

Shaw trained apart from the England team today, and Southgate says he will not rush back the left-back.

  12. 'Eriksen can produce magic'published at 18:56 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England defender Kyle Walker on playing Denmark and their biggest dangers: "I don’t think we underestimate any opponent we play. I think you have to give them the level of respect they deserve.

"They’ve got a number of players in the Premier League, I played with Christian Eriksen at Tottenham and he can produce magic at the drop of a hat. Hopefully we can just play that bit better in the second half and the nerves have gone a little bit."

On Eriksen’s comeback following his collapse at Euro 2020: "It’s fantastic, it’s a testament to him. Us both playing in Manchester, we do bump into each other and have a catch-up. What he’s done and what he’s achieved since the sad incident just shows what a character he is and what he possesses really."

  13. 'Bellingham has mentality for the big occasion'published at 18:55 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England manager Gareth Southgate on Jude Bellingham: "He’s a player to work with, very coachable. When you’re looking to be a top player, when you are a top player and you want to keep improving, that’s a brilliant sign.

"I played with [Wayne] Rooney at a very young age as well, when he arrived on the scene for the first time he was an incredible player. Over the years we have had good players and we have good ones now. It can’t all rest on his shoulders, equally he’s got a fabulous mentality for the big occasion and he produced some incredible moments in the game yesterday."

  14. 'We know we can play better than the other day'published at 18:53 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    England

England manager Gareth Southgate on whether his side are better now than at Euro 2020: "I think we have to prove that really. The opponent is not going to sit here and say we’re a load of idiots and lead into the game that way.

"We know we have good players, we know we can play better than the other day. But I thought the players in an incredibly pressurised moment started exceptionally well and defended brilliantly throughout the whole game. I think they’ll be better for having a game under their belt.

"Emotionally there’s so much tension I don’t think people can really understand what it is like for young players. We are pleased to have got a result from that and we know we have to be good tomorrow."

Gareth Southgate is asked if he agrees with Kasper Schmeichel that England are a better side than when they faced Denmark in 2021.

"The opponents aren't going to say we are a bunch of idiots," says Southgate, correctly.

  20. England to win again? Sutton's predictionspublished at 18:41 19 June

Denmark v England (Thur, 17:00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker for BBC Sport

I don't agree with all the criticism I have heard following England's opening win over Serbia, and I can see this being pretty comfortable for Gareth Southgate's side.

To be honest, I am sick and tired of people whinging about what England have done so far. I am often accused of being negative, but England have started a tournament with a win and it is still supposedly not good enough.

One of the debates has been whether Southgate should stick with Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, and I am massively on the fence there.

You look at what his strengths are and he is a wonderful passer of a football, but then he does have deficiencies in that position, and it is down to Southgate to decide whether he is worth the risk.

If England go further into this tournament then maybe Southgate will go for a bit more stability in there, but I don't see this as the time to worry about that. This is not the Danish team of tournaments past and I don't think they will cause too many problems.

I am going for another England win, and another clean sheet - and I want to give a quick mention to Marc Guehi.

I am not saying I had doubts about him before the Serbia game because he has had a good season, but he still had to step up to play in his first game at a major tournament - and he was absolutely colossal.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-2.
