Stevenage's trip to the Brick Community Stadium ended in a goalless stalemate as hosts Wigan Athletic kept their sixth clean sheet in nine home League One games.
Stevenage were without defender Charlie Goode, who is set to be out until the New Year after breaking his leg in the 2-0 defeat by Exeter on Saturday, but it did not affect their back-line.
Both teams demonstrated their solid defensive records as neither were able to find a breakthrough in attack, with only three shots on target all game.
The visitors came out firing on all cylinders, with Jamie Reid's opening effort on goal just drifting wide of the post shortly after kick-off.
The biggest chance for Wigan came for Luke Chambers who found himself in space just outside the penalty area in the 35th minute but was unable to keep the ball down as he watched his strike float marginally above the bar.
Latics debutant Michael Olakigbe then made an immediate impact from the bench, forcing Boro keeper Murphy Cooper into his first save of the night.
Harvey White the had a late chance for Stevenage but saw his free-kick from the edge of the box go wide.
Bouncing back important - Revell
"The energy, the intensity and the organisation was excellent from everyone today," Stevenage boss Alex Revell told BBC Three Counties Radio.
"We can obviously do more to create better chances but today was about bouncing back from Saturday and that was everything that you want away from home.
"It was important today to show an organised performance and to frustrate them.
"The only thing that was lacking was that first pass. We have to improve that, the players have to have more belief in their ability when they get the ball because we have some top players.
"When you have the outstanding work rate that we have and this togetherness and spirit that everyone craves, it's incredible."
'It's hard to be critical of the players' - Maloney
"Without the ball, really happy. Then with the ball, just a bit of frustration," Wigan boss Shaun Maloney told BBC Radio Manchester.
"We are doing a lot of things pretty good but just not enough attacking wise.
"We can definitely get better in certain positions attacking wise. I know it's small margins but it does have a big impact.
"It was a difficult post-match to speak to the players because, and with respect to Stevenage, you want to win. I'm not ecstatic about drawing 0-0 at home.
"It was really difficult to be critical of the players. It's on me to give them coaching in those attacking areas I think."
