Here it is then, the game Manchester United fans have all been waiting for.

United's game with Bodo/Glimt is new manager Ruben Amorim's first at Old Trafford as Manchester United's head coach.

He has previously been in charge of 38 European games across his spells with Portuguese sides Braga and Sporting.

He lost both of his two Europa League games with Braga, before joining Sporting, with whom he has had 15 wins in Europe, with 10 draws and 11 losses.

They reached the last 16 of the Champions League in 2021-22, followed by the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2022-23 and the last 16 in 2023-24.

Sporting's 4-1 victory over Manchester City earlier this month meant he left for Manchester United with three wins and one draw from four Champions League games this season.

Manchester United have confirmed the cost of replacing Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim.

In the detail of first quarter accounts submitted to the New York Stock Exchange, the club said the exit of Ten Hag and his staff cost £10.4m, while hiring Amorim from Sporting cost £11m.

This comes at a time when ticket prices have shot up to £66, with no concessions for Premier League games.

United argue that 97% of tickets have already been sold so there will be a minimal effect on most fans and the move represents an effort to maximise income and reduce costs across the club that has led to around 250 redundancies.

It just shows that while money can be saved at a club, by far the biggest costs are involved in first-team recruitment - which United have not been particularly good at.

  4. 'I'm not here for a holiday'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time

    Nice v Rangers (20:00 GMT)

Rangers manager Philippe Clement insists he is not treating his return to the south of France as a "holiday" as his side prepare to face Nice in the Europa League on Thursday.

Clement spent 18 months as Monaco manager before taking over at Rangers, and says it is "special" to return to that part of the world.

"It's special to be back," Clement said. "I had a really good time here. I enjoyed living here. I met some really nice people, so a lot of friends will come to watch this game.

"So yeah, this feels like a place where you were in a really good way, so I’m happy to be back in that way.

"But I'm not here for a holiday or to meet people tomorrow or to have talks with a lot of people. I'm here to work."

Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt are currently establishing themselves as Norway's top team, that has not always been the case.

Sporting director Havard Sakariassen used to be a player at the club and he remembered a period where the squad had to wash their own kit.

"If you go back to the year in 2009-2011, the club was struggling really hard financially," he said.

"I had my last season in 2011 as a player. In mid-season that year I quit. I was old and not any good. I left the changing room and went upstairs.

"At that time the club was in such bad conditions that we didn't have a kit manager. We washed our training gear at home and came to training already dressed. That was the situation at Bodo/Glimt in 2011.

"We had one person working for the A team that autumn. That was me. I was the kit man."

Even though the Norwegian champions accept they can never come close to matching the financial muscle Premier League clubs receive, they do not travel to Manchester without belief of causing a shock.

"We don't have the resources you see at top clubs in England," Sakariassen added. "We will never, ever be able to compete with that.

"But we truly believe in development and that we can get the potential out of the players we have here. If we can do that, as individuals and as a team, it is huge. Then you can make a great team and it goes a long way.

"Maybe I am naive. But in a single match like on Thursday, I think we will be able to compete against Manchester United and have a great performance at Old Trafford."

  6. 'Chelsea doing it in style'published at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time

It was comfortable for Chelsea, although it wasn't an 8-0 win.

Mykhailo Mudryk did what Mudryk does. He was on the periphery until he scored. Christopher Nkunku has proved he is a goalscorer. He is so calm in front of the goal.

Filip Jorgensen was also good in good tonight. You don't hear his name too much because he isn't flashy. He has faced a lot of shots and he has produced moments. He will be pushing for a start over Robert Sanchez.

There were a lot of positives for Enzo Maresca's side. We all expected them to cruise through this competition, but they've done it in style.

There is one player who will be under more scrutiny than any other for Tottenham tonight: Fraser Forster.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper is replacing Spurs number one Guglielmo Vicaro after he needed surgery on a broken ankle sustained in the 4-0 win away at Manchester City.

Forster is experienced with 150 Premier League appearances to his name and four Scottish titles with Celtic.

But there are questions about whether he can perform in Ange Postecoglou's system which includes a high defensive line, and as one of the most insistent teams on playing out from the back through their goalkeepers.

This is a prolonged audition for the 6ft 7in goalkeeper to show Spurs his worth and encourage them to not go into the market in January.

  8. Antony's chancepublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (20:00GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at Old Trafford

Even inside Manchester United, they accept the club paid far too much for Antony.

The Brazilian is United's second most expensive player behind Paul Pogba. At £81.3m, he cost £50m more than the sum former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was considering paying Ajax for the Brazilian.

Antony has never looked remotely like justifying that fee.

Tonight he slots into the right wing-back role Amad caught the eye in at Ipswich on Sunday.

In one sense, it is a fresh start for Antony. But in another, we are getting close to the point where if he doesn't start performing, United will have to cut their losses.

  9. Larne aim to get off the mark in Sloveniapublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time

    Olimpija v Larne (20:00 GMT)

Larne are in Slovenian capital Ljubljana to face Olimpija and hoping to end a run of three straight defeats in the Conference League.

The Northern Irish champions sit bottom of the 36-team table and also find themselves fourth-from-bottom in the Irish Premiership.

Nathan Rooney replaced long-serving Tiernan Lynch as the Larne manager this week, but the former Bruno's Magpies boss is only set to start his new role tomorrow.

So assistant manager Gary Haveron is in interim charge against three-time Slovenian champions Olimpija tonight.

The hosts will set their sights on a hat-trick of wins in Europe, having beaten Austria's LASK and Finland's HJK in their most recent games.

  10. Strong away followingpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time

Manchester United may not be the team they once were but Old Trafford remains one of the 'must see' stadiums for football fans around the world.

There is a huge Bodo/Glimt following to my right, on both levels on the east stand.

It seems like they are all wearing yellow.

    Very distinctive.

That win guarantees Chelsea will play European football in 2025 - they are now mathematically certain of at least a Europa Conference League play-off place.

Now, let's look ahead to the 8pm kick-offs...

FT: The New Saints 0-1 Djurgarden

    Chris Wathan

You couldn't call it a classic, but TNS can be proud of their efforts in that one against a side who were in the second pot of seeds for the group stages.

It took a time for the hosts to really threaten with some of that late pressure, but to be beaten by just one goal will both sting and show that TNS can compete at this level.

Two games to go and there's still a chance for them - and only losing by the odd goal could be key if it comes to goal difference
