    That's Monday done and dusted.

Thanks as always for joining us today as we eased into the week with a bit of a slower paced live.

All the best bits from today can be found in the summary points at the top of the page.

And don't forget, Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Belarus will be live to watch this evening on BBC Scotland or via BBC iPlayer.

We'll be back tomorrow morning with reaction to that and with build up to yet another qualifier - as England prepare to take on Serbia.

    See you then.

  2. 'Young Scotland players show no nerves' - McGinnpublished at 14:54 BST 8 September

    Belarus v Scotland (19:45 BST)

For the first time in three decades, this is a Scotland squad who have major tournament experience.

Many of Clarke's key men who qualified for Euro 2020 and/or 2024 are still pulling on the jersey, while those who have yet to have a taste are champing at the bit.

From Ben Gannon Doak to Lennon Miller, and lately Kieron Bowie, the calls for youngsters to transition into first-team regulars have been growing from the stands - and John McGinn is sure they are ready, should the nod come.

"The young boys are a lot different to when I was coming into the squad," McGinn added.

"They're not as nervous any more. Football has changed and the boys are a lot more comfortable coming into the environment, which is good.

"They all bring their own humour, characteristics and ability to the group - they're getting better and better and every time they come away you can see the improvement.

"That can only benefit us because we're getting older and in the next few years those guys are going to have to take up the mantle and try and knock us off our perch."

  3. How much of a threat are Belarus to Scotland?published at 14:51 BST 8 September

How much of a threat do the Belarusians pose to Scotland's chances of World Cup qualification?

In theory, the answer should be 'not much', looking at the relative strength of each squad and the level at which the respective sets of players ply their trade.

Belarus no longer have a talisman of the stature of Aleksandr Hleb, who tortured the Scots at Hampden in their shock win over Walter Smith's team in 2005, or a striker of the quality of Vitaly Kutusov, whose goal won that game.

Without question they still have decent players, such as Valeriy Gromyko, who along with his international team-mate Aleksandr Martynovich helped Kairat Almaty despatch Celtic in their Champions League play-off.

Belarus also do not, however, had the greatest 'home' record since being obliged by Fifa to play at a neutral venue - and behind closed doors - as a result of the country's support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

  4. Scotland ready to be 'horrible in a good way'published at 14:40 BST 8 September

Clarke not giving away changes ahead of Belarus

Scotland are back in World Cup qualifying action this evening.

Steve Clarke's side secured what could prove to be a precious point in a goalless draw against Denmark on Friday. And tonight they face Belarus.

Midfielder John McGinn spoke about the need for Scotland to get back to being "horrible" to play against, as they showed against Denmark.

And Clarke agreed with that assessment, suggesting it is those attributes that could underpin Scotland's attempts to reach the World Cup finals in United States, Canada and Mexico next summer.

"Horrible in a good way," the head coach said. "Horrible in that they make it really difficult for the opposition, they work ever so hard when we don't have the ball.

"It's nice to do the bits that catch the attention - the good shots, the good play - but the basics, the nuts and bolts of football, are about doing the dirty stuff, the stuff where you have to do your hard yards off the ball.

"If we can do that across the six games, then I think we can get enough points."

He was called up to England Under-17s as a 15-year-old and has now, having just turned 17, made his debut for England Under-19s.

Things didn't necessarily work out quite how those players we just mentioned might have hoped and there are guarantees for any player at that young age.

But there are a number of teenagers in world football for whom great things are expected - and a few of them have already begun fulfilling their potential...

    Debut: 16 August 2008

    Premier League appearances: 5

Following in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney and James Vaughan, Baxter became Everton's youngest first-team player aged 16 years and 191 days when he played against West Brom.

But he managed only five Premier League appearances in total, before enjoying a successful playing career at Oldham and Sheffield United.

In a revealing interview with BBC Sport, he spoke about his drug use during his playing days as well as dealing with depression.

Baxter said: "I was in a bubble, being on quite a lot of money at a young age. I didn't really know any boundaries in terms of money, going out and spending stupid stuff, and doing silly stuff."

Italian striker Macheda is probably the player on this list who made the biggest impact, scoring a stunning winning goal on his debut for Manchester United against Aston Villa.

Remarkably, he netted another winner against Sunderland six days later as the Red Devils edged back above Liverpool to go top of the league, and eventually going on to become champions.

Macheda managed only two further league goals for United but went on to have a decent career in the Championship, as well as in Greece and Turkey.

At 16 years and 68 days, left-back Briggs is the fifth-youngest player to appear in the Premier League.

He managed 13 league games for the Cottagers before embarking on a varied career, which included earning 17 international caps for Guyana.

Briggs told BBC Sport in 2019: "I don't really think I dealt with it particularly well - from that day [his debut], that's when everything started going downhill and the pressure just got to me, I guess.

"It's hard for me to look back at it because I used to think I'd failed - I used to hate having that title - but now I look at it as something to be proud of.

"Don't feel entitled like I did because you made your debut at 16 - you've got to keep proving and showing why they put you there in the first place."

Oxford is the youngest player to appear in West Ham's first team - he made his Premier League debut aged 16 years and 237 days against Arsenal.

He made only eight league appearances before going on to make his career in the Bundesliga at Borussia Monchengladbach and Augsburg, who released him in the summer.

Box-to-box midfielder Johnson was given his City debut by Stuart Pearce and was tipped to become a star for both club and country.

But a succession of long-term injuries took their toll. He managed only four league appearances in his final three seasons with the club, and was unable to resurrect his career in a loan spell at Leicester.

He was finally released by City in 2013 aged 24, before leaving football and going on to work as an estate agent. He said afterwards, external he had been attending a clinic for a number of years to deal with mental health issues.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I'd be grateful if I could now be left alone to live the rest of my life."
