  2. 'I'm really sorry we couldn't deliver'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

FT: Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Derry City manager Ruaidhri Higgins speaking to BBC Sport NI's Odhran Crumley: "It's obviously a difficult time to speak, the last few weeks haven't been good enough. Three weeks ago, we had the chance to win the double and we have ended up with nothing.

"We had a couple of good chances at 0-0 that we should have taken but we didn't. We give away a terrible goal from a set play and a penalty that I was told was outside the box but it is over now and we have to take it on the chin. I feel for our supporters who have stuck with us through thick and thin and come out here in numbers and I'm really sorry we couldn't deliver."

  3. 'We weren't good enough on the day'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

FT: Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Derry City's Michael Duffy speaking to BBC Sport NI's Odhran Crumley: "So disappointing now as I speak, we took too long to get started first half we weren't moving the ball fast enough and then we give away a goal at a set piece and then the penalty and we couldn't break them down at all. We weren't good enough on the day and it is really tough to take."

  4. 'Derry can have no complaints'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

FT: Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

    Liam Coyle
Former Derry City forward on Radio Foyle

Drogheda dominated that game, and Derry can have no complaints. Drogheda looked like a proper team and Derry didn't. There is going to have to be a lot of soul searching about their recruitment because all I see is Derry falling further behind if that is how it is going to go.

  5. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

It's all over and Drogheda United are the 2024 FAI Cup champions!

The cup will be coming back to Weavers Park for the second time and first since 2005 and they will be playing in Europe next summer. They need to beat Bray next week to secure their top flight status but they were superb today.

For Derry, this final sums up their end to the season as the title, European qualification and now cup success slip from their grasp. It will be a long, tough off-season at The Brandywell with some big decision to be made.

The last chance of the day for Derry goes begging as Jacob Davenport heads over from Michael Duffy's corner.

"Championees" rings out from the Drogheda fans.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

  8. INJURY TIMEpublished at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Five added minutes as Ryan Brennen is down with cramp. Derry City look down and out as their cup final and European qualification hopes drifts away.

  9. Postpublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

A huge roar from the Drogheda fans behind the goal as, after their team threw bodies in the way of Derry crosses and shots, Luke Dennison plucks the ball from the dusky Dublin sky.

Into the last minute of the 90 as Drogheda right back Elicha Ahui is named man of the match.

  10. Postpublished at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

A piece of Phil Jones-esque defending from Mark Connolly as he nods the ball away from Darragh Markey while prone on the turf.

A great piece of commitment but with five minutes of normal time remaining, Derry need a miracle.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Another former Manchester City man is on for Derry as Jacob Davenport replaces former Liverpool man Andre Wisdom. Eight to go at the Aviva.

  12. Postpublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Ryan Brennan, already on a booking for the clash that ended Patrick McEleney's afternoon, clips Colm Whelan on the edge of the box.

He escapes a second yellow and Michael Duffy's free-kick is drilled straight into the wall.

  13. Postpublished at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

A piece of play to sum up Derry's afternoon so far as Sean Robertson tries to unleash Colm Whelan with a thrown-in but he overcooks it and it goes out for a goal kick.

That is the first mention of Whelan since his introduction and he and Hoban have been kept quiet so far.

  14. Postpublished at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Douglas James-Taylor kept his cool to double Drogheda's lead.

  15. Postpublished at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

A mad scramble from a Michael Duffy corner sees Luke Dennison hold on at the second attempt despite being clattered by Mark Connolly.

A second sub made by Kevin Doherty as Luke Heeney replaces Shane Farrell who walks off rather gingerly after emptying the tank.

15 minutes to go at the Aviva Stadium.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Despite protests that the Drogheda man took a dive, Shane McEleney is cautioned for a foul on Darragh Markey on halfway.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Another striker with fitness questions coming into this one was Franz Pierrot but he started and has put in a workmanlike performance up top.

On comes the man who scored two, including a stoppage time winner against Wexford in the semi-finals, Adam Foley.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:38 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

What a big moment for Derry as Ruaidhri Higgins is really rolling the dice. On comes Pat Hoban for Ronan Boyce on 65 minutes.

The striker didn't feature in any of the last three league games and there are question marks over his fitness but needs must.

Worth noting that the replacement of Patrick McEleney was a concussion sub so the Derry manager still has five subs to work with - three of them now used.

  19. Postpublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Drogheda United 2-0 Derry City

Mark Connolly rises to meet Michael Duffy's corner but his header is well over the bar. Derry City will need much more than that.
