Philippe Clement is urging fans to keep faith with him and says he is "200% confident" Rangers are on the right track.

The Ibrox side lost at Kilmarnock on Sunday, leaving them six points behind leaders Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Belgian Clement, whose side host FCSB of Romania in the Europa League on Thursday, had guided his team to the top of the table in late February.

However, five domestic defeats contributed to missing out on the Premiership title and Scottish Cup to Celtic, while four losses this campaign have hindered their domestic and European ambitions.

"The fans will see that we’ll be better," Clement said. "The people who’re unhappy now, I understand but I’m working even harder than I was before."

Clement was the third Rangers managerial appointment in less than two years when he replaced Michael Beale a year ago and believes stability is "the only way".

"Not just here but in clubs all over Europe and the world," he said.

"If you change ideas every three months, six months, or every year, there’s no consistency. You need one process with everyone going in the same direction.

"That’s crucial. Otherwise there will always be ups and downs. If you go with the motion of the day, or one or two results, then you can never create consistency.

"Last season, all the fans were behind the story. They were really happy. I didn’t go with the hype of that moment. I also don’t go with the drama now.

"There’s a big space in between and we are in that space. I believe so much in this club and its potential."

Team news

Forward Zak Lovelace, 18, is in Rangers' squad but the game comes too soon for left-back Ridvan Yilmaz, despite the Turkish defender returning to training.

Oscar Cortes and Rabbi Matondo are injured and, although Danilo and Ianis Hagi featured for the B team on Tuesday, neither are in Rangers' Europa League squad.

What can Rangers expect from FCSB?

BBC Scotland commentator Liam McLeod:

FCSB's European journey so far this season has been a long one already.

Beginning in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, they came through Sanmarinese minnows Virtus before seeing off Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv.

They then ran into Czech champions Sparta Prague as they dropped down to the Europa League before ejecting Austrians LASK in the play-off.

And while they travel to Ibrox sitting a disappointing fifth in the Romanian top flight, form has been found, form that has included two wins out of two at the start of their Europa League campaign against Riga and PAOK.

  • Including qualifiers, Rangers have lost their latest three home European matches – but have never lost four in a row at Ibrox.

  • Rangers and Steaua Bucharest have each won two and lost two of their six previous meetings but the Romanians have yet to win at Ibrox.
