Luis Diaz marked his Bayern Munich debut with a goal and Harry Kane also scored to help the Bundesliga champions beat Stuttgart and win the German Super Cup.

Diaz celebrated a winning start to his career in Germany, having joined Vincent Kompany's side from Liverpool this summer for £65.5m on a four-year deal.

The Colombia winger headed home from Serge Gnabry's cross in the 77th minute to double Bayern's lead.

England captain Kane had broken the deadlock in the first half, taking advantage of a poor clearance to slide the ball into the bottom corner.

Jamie Leweling pulled a goal back for German Cup winners Stuttgart in the 93rd minute, but it proved to be a consolation as Bayern earned their first piece of silverware of the season.

After his goal, Diaz paid tribute to his former Liverpool team-mate Diogo Jota - who was killed in a car crash in July along with his brother Andre Silva - by replicating one of the Portugal forward's celebrations.

Bayern have now won the season curtain-raiser a record 11 times, while Kane has added a second piece of silverware in Germany after winning his first career trophy last season.

Bayern, who missed out on the title in 2024 for the first time in 11 years but triumphed under Kompany last season, will begin their title defence against RB Leipzig on 22 August.
