FA Cup
All competitions
This will be the first ever competitive meeting between Newport County and Manchester United. The Exiles have won just one of their last 23 meetings with top-flight opponents in all competitions (D7 L15), beating Leicester City 2-1 in the FA Cup in 2018-19.
This will be Manchester United’s first FA Cup game in Wales since the 2005 final against Arsenal, when the Red Devils lost 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 draw. Their only previous away game against Welsh opposition in the competition was a 5-0 win at Wrexham in January 1957.
Newport County have progressed from just two of their eight FA Cup fourth round ties, doing so in their first (vs Huddersfield in 1948-49) and most recent such fixtures (vs Middlesbrough in 2018-19).
Manchester United have progressed from 49 of their last 51 FA Cup ties against teams from outside the top-flight, failing only in 2009-10 against Leeds United (lost 1-0) and 2021-22 against Middlesbrough (1-1 draw, eliminated on penalties). Away from home, they are unbeaten in 28 matches (W24 D4) in the FA Cup against non-top-flight sides since losing 2-0 to Bournemouth in January 1984.
Marcus Rashford has either scored (2) or assisted (2) a goal in each of his last four appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, just one fewer goal involvement than he managed in his first 22 games this season (2 goals, 3 assists).
