  1. Muniz on the move?published at 14:43 British Summer Time 31 July

Newcastle are the latest club linked with Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, who is also reportedly a target for Leeds and Atalanta. The 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a starting spot at Craven Cottage, often playing second fiddle to Raul Jimenez over the past two seasons.

But he has attracted attention from potential suitors by making the most of limited opportunities. The Brazilian opened his Premier League account in a 2-2 draw at Burnley in February 2024, the first of 17 top-flight goals in the space of 16 months.

During this time he averages a goal every 128 minutes, the sixth best record in the competition. The only players to post better figures are Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah – arguably the league’s three best forwards – plus Jhon Duran and Richarlison, both of whom mainly profited as impact substitutes.

Muniz has proved himself a clinical finisher over this period, outperforming his expected goals tally by 3.46, whilst also excelling in the air. Though hardly a giant at 6ft 1in, he has won an average of five aerial duels per 90 minutes since February 2024, the fourth best record of any players to appear regularly in the top flight.

Leeds have repeatedly targeted tall players this summer and Muniz’s physicality could be a real asset to the newly promoted side. Winning a starting role at Newcastle or Atalanta may prove more challenging, but those clubs could offer the enticing prospect of Champions League football.

However, Fulham have yet to sign an outfield player this summer and they may be reluctant to let Muniz move on without first having a replacement lined up.

Moroccan football expert Amine El-Amri says Everton fans have plenty to look forward to with their new signing Adam Aznou.

El-Amri spoke to BBC Radio Merseyside about the 19-year-old Moroccan left-back, who has joined from Bayern Munich for around £8m.

"Adam is a very promising prospect," said El-Amri.

"In 2021 he joined Bayern Munich and let me tell you, back in Barcelona people were fuming that this kind of very good prospect is quitting Barcelona and joining Bayern Munich.

"Aznou is a character - he's somebody who is not going to sit quiet. He knows his qualities and I think he's focused.

''With Aznou, you're in for a show because the kid is very, very good. He's got a wonderful left leg and he's going to be awesome on the flank.

El-Amri added: "He's more of a winger than a left-back, he plays very very well.

"He's very fast, very quick and for example when he played his first game for the national side he overperformed even by the national team's standard.

"He's very dedicated and knows that he is gifted and that's very important in terms of confidence especially when you're playing in one of the best leagues in the world, you have to have confidence."

  4. Arsenal’s spending spree the second biggest in their historypublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 31 July

Tomorrow marks five years to the day since Arsenal won their only major trophy under Mikel Arteta, beating Chelsea in the Covid-delayed 2020 FA Cup final.

The Gunners have spent heavily this summer in order to end that drought, investing £191m on six new signings. That includes an initial £54.8m for striker Viktor Gyokeres, £48.5m on winger Noni Madueke and £60m for midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

It is the second biggest transfer outlay in the club’s history, behind only the 2023-24 campaign, when Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber arrived for a combined sum of £196m.

During Arteta’s entire tenure, Arsenal have spent a total of £869m, excluding add-ons, bringing in 36 players. The team have undoubtedly improved, finishing as Premier League runners-up in each of the previous three seasons and reaching the Champions League semi-finals last term. However, winning additional silverware has proved elusive.

Will this summer’s business, especially the recruitment of Gyokeres, prove the final piece in the puzzle?

  5. Arsenal offer for Eze 'would be hard to resist'published at 14:23 British Summer Time 31 July

As things stand, Palace chairman Steve Parish has shown no indication he would be open to negotiating a lower price; though there is a thought at rival clubs his stance may soften later in the window, to avoid the player going into the final year of his deal.

It is understood Eberechi Eze is very open to joining Arsenal.

The attraction is clear, with Arsenal a contender for both the Premier League and Champions League next season.

However, that is not to say Eze is desperate to leave Selhurst Park.

The 27-year-old is a key member of the Palace squad. He is immensely popular among his colleagues.

It sounds cliche, but the camaraderie nurtured at Palace under Glasner is something numerous sources have told BBC Sport players would find difficult to walk away from. A recent party attended by almost all of the squad was illustrative of their bond.

That would be true for Eze.

But Arsenal do not come knocking often. When they do, particularly for Eze - who was turned down by the Gunners as a youngster - such an offer would be hard to resist.

Out of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, there is less pressure on Crystal Palace to make a big decision on the former.

In many ways it is out of their hands. The 27-year-old has a £68m release clause - if a club agrees to meet that fee then Palace are powerless in deciding his future.

It is understood the buy-out expires two weeks before the window closes, which offers Palace an added layer of protection.

Arsenal have a genuine interest in Eze but have so far shown no inclination of triggering the forward's release fee.

Well-placed sources are also indicating that Arsenal would prefer to sell a forward before making any formal move for Eze.

While there is also a feeling at Arsenal that Eze's best position is at number 10 - an area that Martin Odegaard and Ethan Nwaneri operate in.

Eze can play on the left and Arsenal may view the Palace forward as a multi-functional attacker rather than just a number 10.

Palace are aware of Arsenal's interest.

The Gunners are understood to value Eze lower than the clause and want to negotiate a deal beneath the agreement.

The Guardian report that Crystal Palace have informed Arsenal they would have to pay at least £35m in advance to sign Eberechi Eze, with the rest of the 27-year-old's £67.5m fee due in instalments.

Palace are ready to bring in players themselves as they're ready to offer £27.6m to sign German centre-back Yann Bisseck from Inter Milan according to Gazzetts dello Sport.

The 24-year-old defender could be a potential replacement for their captain Marc Guehi, who's been linked with Premier League Champions, Liverpool this summer.

  8. How are Crystal Palace shaping up for new season?published at 14:00 British Summer Time 31 July

Crystal Palace's summer has played out in the boardroom and will continue in the courtroom.

The club's failed fight to maintain their place in the Europa League next season has dominated the club's summer, in what should have been a period of celebration and optimism following their FA Cup triumph in May.

The forthcoming appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas), scheduled to take place behind closed doors on 8 August, will ultimately determine whether Palace keep what they believe to be their rightful place in the Europa League or will play in the lesser Europa Conference League.

A decision is expected on 11 August.

There has also been the matter of American businessman Woody Johnson's buy-out of former Eagles joint-owner John Textor's shares.

On the pitch, however, there is similar uncertainty.

Two of their best players in Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze have interest from England's elite clubs, their manager Oliver Glasner is inside the final 12 months of his contract and the club are currently without a full-time sporting director following Dougie Freedman's departure.

So far their two summer signings are a goalkeeper - signed for free - and a £3m left-back.

Earlier this week, Glasner went public with his concerns regarding the club's transfer business so far.

Letting Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi leave next summer for nothing is financial suicide. If Liverpool make a good offer - then it makes sense for the club to take the money and reinvest.

Marc Guehi at PalaceImage source, Getty Images

Guehi's future at Palace is less straightforward. The Eagles captain has fewer than 12 months on his contract, meaning he can leave for nothing next summer - a prospect that would represent a huge financial loss to the club given they turned down a deal of around £65m from Newcastle for Guehi in 2024.

As things stand, there are no signs Guehi is prepared to extend his contract, though Palace are obviously keen to discuss a new deal.

Liverpool have a genuine interest in Guehi this summer.

But the level of the Merseyside club's interest will be dictated by cost. Liverpool don't want to get drawn into a long saga over Guehi's valuation and will only move if they believe the fee represents that the defender can join them for nothing next summer.

Palace are believed to want around £40m for Guehi, but Liverpool want to pay less than that figure.

Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea have all registered varying degrees of interest in Guehi since the end of the season.

This might be Arsenal’s year. They came second with a lot of injuries last season. If they can catch a break this season, I don’t know what team can beat them. Especially with Salah missing for AFCON

    Rob

Arsenal might be the only guaranteed top three team. Chelsea may face gelling difficulties, Liverpool are heavily reliant on Salah, and he will be missing during AFCON, and you don't know what City will turn up, even with Rodri back. It'll be an interesting season ahead.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Switzerland international Dan Ndoye from Bologna in a reported £35m deal. He has signed a five-year deal with the East Midlands club.

The 24-year-old arrives at the City Ground after a standout 2024/25 season in Italy, where he played 41 games, scored nine goals, and provided six assists. Ndoye etched his name into Bologna history by scoring the winning goal in the Coppa Italia final, delivering the club’s first major trophy in over 50 years. He also featured in all eight of the club’s Champions League matches.

Known for his directness, creativity, and explosive ball-carrying, Ndoye brings versatility and experience to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. Only five players in Serie A registered better ball progression stats than Ndoye last season.

Ndoye said: "I am really happy to have signed for the Club. It is a really exciting time at Forest, and I knew straight away that I wanted to be a part of the project. It’s a really ambitious team with a fantastic history, and I can’t wait to get started."

There does seem to be a renewed focus about Hojlund.

He looks a different player to the one that ended last season, when he was so badly lacking in confidence and did not seem to believe he would score.

He has 61 goals for club and country, but while some score many more - Erling Haaland had gone past 100 by the time he was Hojlund's age - others take longer.

England's leading goalscorer Harry Kane had only scored 53 goals by the time he was 22.

"I'm still very young," he said. "People forget that sometimes.

"I'm only 22. Not every striker scores 100 goals by that age.

"But I've learned a lot, I think you can see it in my game. I'm starting to develop and become even better in the basics.

"Last season was tough on us all. I should have done better, everybody knows.

"But it's also a team thing. We're going to be better now. We are progressing in the right way and looking forward to what's coming."

  16. Hojlund determined to prove himselfpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 31 July

Hojlund has appeared determined to prove a point on the trip to the United States.

Against West Ham at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday he used his pace and power to drive into a shooting position, crashing a shot against the post.

He took just eight minutes to find the net against Bournemouth, steering home a left-wing cross from fellow countryman Patrick Dorgu.

His claim on a second was more contentious. After using his strength to cause unease among Bournemouth ranks the Denmark forward claimed Amad's low shot, which was heading for the far corner regardless, flicked off him on the way in.

The goal was officially awarded to Amad, but Hojlund said: "It is definitely mine. I can't help it. The ball touched my shin. It's my goal."

After the criticism he has received for his relative lack of goals over the past two seasons, it is understandable that Hojlund would want to claim any that he can.

  17. Hojlund 'could have done with help' in Man Utd attackpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 31 July

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter in Chicago

Rasmus Hojlund at UnitedImage source, Getty Images

Rasmus Hojlund says he "could have done with some help" in the Manchester United attack in previous seasons.

Since joining United in 2023, Hojlund has scored 26 goals in 95 competitive appearances - just over a goal every four games.

The numbers are not terrible. But they include a run of five goals in four games last season and eight in eight the campaign before - two sequences which, if they are removed, leave just 13 goals in 83 appearances.

Yet some argue too much has been asked of Hojlund in the first place and he should have come into a squad with an experienced striker who could share the burden of responsibility.

"When I came, [Anthony] Martial was there as well but he had a lot of injuries, so I obviously had to take a lot of the game time," he said.

"You're not going to tell me I shouldn't be playing because I want to play every game. But obviously I could have done with some help in terms of sharing the games a bit, especially in the beginning."

  18. Hojlund is 'more than ready'published at 13:08 British Summer Time 31 July

Rasmus Hojlund says he is "more than ready" for more competition in the main striker role.

After 48 hours of intense speculation around United's search for forward reinforcements and the knowledge RB Leipzig's highly-rated Slovenian Benjamin Sesko is at the top of their wishlist, Hojlund answered back on and off the pitch in Chicago on Wednesday.

The Denmark international scored one and thought he had a second as United beat Bournemouth 4-1 at Soldier Field in their second game of the Premier League Summer Series.

The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions last season as United ended a dismal Premier League campaign in 15th place, but has vowed to "stay and fight" for his place in Ruben Amorim's side.

"My plan is very clear," said Hojlund, after purposely seeking out the waiting media after the win over Bournemouth. "That is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.

"Competition is fine with me. It sharpens me. I'm more than ready. I'm feeling sharp so I welcome everything that comes."

Sunderland are keen on taking Chelsea striker Marc Guiu on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old is being made available by Chelsea given they boast a host of other options and Guiu has previously attracted the attention of relegated Ipswich Town.

However, the chance of going on loan within the Premier League could also be attractive as Chelsea and the £5m signing from Barcelona in 2024 weigh up their options.

Guiu got six goals in 16 matches in his first season at Chelsea.

The Blues could also loan out winger Tyrique George, also 19, with both attackers having played a substantial role during Chelsea's Conference League win last season.

Chelsea have since signed Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens. They are also in talks to add RB Leipzig attacker midfielder Xavi Simons to Enzo Maresca's squad.
