Wrexham moved up to second in League One as they maintained their unbeaten start with an impressive 2-0 win at Peterborough United.
Jack Marriott scored against his former club to put Wrexham in front, before a header from Max Cleworth doubled their lead.
Substitute Paul Mullin should have netted a third in the second half but a solid defensive display secured a third clean sheet in four games.
Wrexham’s first away win of the season saw them move up two places ,while Peterborough’s second league defeat sees them drop to 11th.
Marriott gave Wrexham the lead inside half an hour when he collected a pass from George Dobson and his sidefooted effort took a deflection.
Cleworth’s rose the highest at the far post to head home Tom O’Connor’s corner for the visitors’ second.
O’Connor himself went close with a shot that came back off the crossbar while Malik Mothersille had the home side’s best opportunity of the first half.
Peterborough stepped up their efforts after the break and Chris Conn-Clarke’s curling effort flew past the post
Paul Mullin continued his comeback from surgery for his second appearance of the season and he very nearly scored a spectacular goal from distance with his first touch.
Mullin missed a golden opportunity for a third but he put his volley wide following a good run from Ryan Barnett.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:
“I thought it was a really solid display form the lads. We knew what we had to do today against a very good side with a lot of talent.
“The shape of the team, our possession was outstanding and some of the quality we showed on the ball was very good.
“I think the first goal typified that and all in all it’s a real win for the team and the substitutes who came on and everybody sticking to their game plan.”
Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
“I felt we were in control of the game, had a lot of possession but didn’t do a lot with it to be honest. I don’t think their goalkeeper had a shot to save, which is not a good stat.
“We kept going but we just couldn’t find a way. We knew the first goal would be important. They’ve just sat in and let us have the ball and we couldn’t find a way of breaking them down.
“Our speed of play was too slow and we just didn’t have the quality at the top end of the pitch.”
