Elliot Lee scored direct from a corner as Wrexham overcame struggling Burton Albion 1-0 for only their third League One away win of the season.
The midfielder was aiming for Seb Revan at the far post but the ball went into the back of the net off the inside of the upright.
Testing weather conditions at the Pirelli Stadium made it difficult for both sides to carve out any opportunities of note during a goalless first half.
With the wind behind Wrexham in the second half, Lee had already had an effort deflected for a corner before he scored what proved to be the 65th-minute winner.
Substitutes Steven Fletcher and Paul Mullin were both denied by home goalkeeper Max Crocombe in the closing stages.
Wrexham's fourth consecutive win and leaders Wycombe Wanderers' draw against Reading moves Phil Parkinson's side level on points at the top of the table.
Burton remain 23rd in the table, above bottom club Shrewsbury Town only on goal difference, now eight points adrift of safety.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:
"It's a brilliant performance from us today in very difficult conditions and I thought we played with nous.
"That was the key – we made good decisions on the ball and played some good stuff at times but we played the right ball at the right time. We looked like a team who knew what we needed to do.
"We couldn't get that second goal but all in all the conditions were a huge leveller. Every three points is so crucial and along the course of a nine month season you've got to win in different conditions and we've done that really well today."
Burton Albion interim manager Tom Hounsell told BBC Radio Derby:
"In these types of games, in these conditions, sometimes you need a little bit of luck and you're playing off of moments and the nature of their goal was that all over.
"I don't think either team had anything that was clear cut. Really difficult conditions today but I can't fault the players' efforts.
"I thought they were phenomenal again after a big performance in midweek. I'm really disappointed for the players – I thought they deserved something out of today's game."
