Here is what Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler had to say on how his team have processed the 7-0 loss at Nottingham Forest:

"We analysed the game, we were honest to each other. We had a lot of individual talks. Especially in these moments, it is important to analyse and find the right conclusions, not to overreact, to stay calm, to trust the approach that we have before.

"One game shouldn't define our season, shouldn't define our whole team and that's why we were honest with each other.

"You reflect on it and go back to what makes us strong and that is intensity."

It's been a painful week for the Seagulls, after they were thrashed 7-0 by Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Big response needed.

  3. 'The reality is not always as you wish'published at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time

Man Utd v Leicester (Fri, 20:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Here's a bit more from Ruud van Nistelrooy speaking about the restrictions that faced Leicester during the January transfer window:

“The reality is not always as you wish. I was part of the communication, so the development didn’t come as a surprise. Then I’m quite pragmatic. Let’s get on with it.

"If you can’t get players from the outside, get them from the inside. Young players, [Wilfred] Ndidi is back, that’s an addition, [Mads] Hermansen is back, that’s an addition.

“When you strengthen the team, your chances will improve, there’s no doubt about that. But the means were not there to do so. It wasn’t possible. Also, the loans were blocked because we have two players. The disappointment is that two loans are not having the minutes so they’re not strengthening the team. We looked at foreign loans.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy was given the Leicester City job after beating the Foxes twice in his four games as Manchester United interim boss, before Ruben Amorim's arrival in November.

“It’s special to go back there [Old Trafford]," the Dutchman says. "I have history as a player, as an assistant, as a caretaker."

    Leicester City

A bit more team news coming from the Leicester camp involves some big news for a couple of youngsters.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed that 15-year-old Jeremy Monga and 17-year-old Jake Evans will be part of the squad for tomorrow evening's FA Cup fourth-round tie.

  6. Club had to 'deal with restrictions' during transfer windowpublished at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time

Man Utd v Leicester (Fri, 20:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has also been speaking about the January transfer window, and whether he was left disappointment with his side's business, or lack of.

"It’s not a question of being disappointed. It’s a question of reality and where the club stands.

"We had to deal with the restrictions. We needed to impact the team with impact players and we weren’t able to get them because of the balance of opportunity and restriction.

"We tried. The focus was on impact players. With [Woyo] Coulibaly, we did it, but other opportunities weren’t possible.”

When asked if something changed in regards to what was possible in the window, he said: “The conversations in November were clear. You enter a process together and everything is presented to you.

"The idea was that there were certain possibilities, but when the numbers came on the table, it turned out to be different and we had to reassess and see what we could do in that framework.”

Interesting poll (is Howe underrated?) Vast majority say ‘yes’ which arguably proves that the answer is ‘no’?!

But enough about the buttered cat paradox for now.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is speaking to the media before his Leicester City travel to Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow night.

OK, first of all, I had never heard of the buttered cat paradox, so this has been a really interesting few minutes for me.

Having searched it after my initial fear was eventually overpowered by intrigue, I am now feeling quite excited by the prospect of Newcastle and Spurs engaging in the longest ever penalty shootout.

Fair play, Chris. I bet that wasn't an easy message to write.

Sunderland, of course, are eyeing a Premier League return and currently sit fourth in the Championship. Will we see the return of top-flight Tyne-Wear derbies next season?

Leeds United stretched their lead at the top to five points with a 2-0 win over Coventry City last night, but just three points separate Burnley, Sheffield United and Sunderland behind.

Eddie Howe is very properly rated. Everybody knows he's a good manager. He manages one of the best teams in the country. Reminds me of when people used to say Busquets was 'underrated'. No he wasn't, he played for Barcelona in the greatest team of all time? He was very properly rated. The definition of 'under/over rated' has lost all meaning.

  15. Carlisle United appoint Hughespublished at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time

Meanwhile, Carlisle United, the bottom club in League Two, have appointed Mark Hughes as their new head coach.

Hughes has managed six clubs in the Premier League, and a total of 466 games in that competition, as well as the Wales national team after a glittering playing career.

Most recently he spent 18 months at Bradford, finishing sixth in League Two.

But his new challenge is to try and drag Carlisle away from relegation to the National League.

Re Matt, Birmingham: I have been saying for a long time that I think it is the pitches they play on now - they are too firm with no 'give', hence why studs get 'stuck' in the turf. You only have to see the number of sliding on the knee celebrations that abruptly stop & propel the player forwards. Just my honest, humble opinion.

I don’t think anyone really expects Tottenham to get a draw tonight, it’s going to be a heavy defeat. The good thing for Newcastle is that the final is a few days after the UCL round of 16 second leg. It would be good to see Newcastle win a trophy!

  19. Luke Shaw's injury woepublished at 11:21 Greenwich Mean Time

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

There have been conflicting reports around Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, with one source saying he was out for another four weeks and others predicting a return to training next week.

Given he was part of the senior squad training at Carrington last Wednesday ahead of United's Europa League trip to Romania and the club have not dismissed queries around Shaw's fitness, it seems certain head coach Ruben Amorim will confirm the England man has had some kind of setback when he speaks to the media this afternoon.

Shaw has not started a game for United since 18 February last year. He has made six appearances, three for England at Euro 2024 and three for his club as a substitute, the last of which was on 1 December.

With Lisandro Martinez looking set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, Amorim would have wanted Shaw as an option for the left-sided central defensive slot.
