  4. Lens reject two Wolves bids for defender Dansopublished at 09:07 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Wolves have had two bids rejected for Lens defender Kevin Danso.

The Premier League strugglers have reignited their interest in the 26-year-old having initially opted to sign Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims ahead of him earlier this month.

One of Wolves' offers was 22m euros (£18.44m) and the clubs remain in talks.

Personal terms are not expected to be an issue with the Austria international.

Wolves changed their minds on moving for Danso - after Agbadou's £16.6m move - having accepted they needed more defensive reinforcements after slipping back into the Premier League's relegation zone at the weekend.

  5. Villa's Duran valued at £80mpublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Speaking of Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, The Athletic's transfer round-up has the 21-year-old valued at a whopping £80m, external.

Duran has 12 goals in 29 matches across all competitions this season and, with reliable high-quality strikers somewhat sparse these days, there's no doubting he will be in high demand.

    Is £80m a fair price?

  6. Chelsea exits being discussedpublished at 08:55 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport football news reporter

In the last 24 hours, Axel Disasi and Joao Felix's exits from Stamford Bridge have risen up the Chelsea news agenda.

Chelsea are believed to have had contact from Aston Villa and Wolves for defender Disasi.

It is understood that Villa is the preferred destination for the Frenchman, who joined Chelsea 18 months ago in a £38.5m move from Monaco.

However, it is less clear whether Felix's situation is more agent talk as he is also linked with Villa, who are believed to have held historic interest in signing him.

Speaking of historic interest, could Villa striker Jhon Duran somehow be roped into the situation - having long been a target of transfer bosses at Chelsea?

Really disappointing by Arsenal in the transfer window, no action whatsoever. Man City had a blip in form and showed their fans they were serious about improvement so have bought some players in positions they needed. Arsenal out of two cups already and practically out of the PL and nothing in terms of transfers.

  8. Walker conversation with Guardiola about leaving 'not comfortable'published at 08:45 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Former Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has been speaking at a press conference having being unveiled as an AC Milan player.

He said telling City boss Pep Guardiola he wanted to leave was an "uncomfortable conversation".

"When I spoke with Pep, it wasn't a very comfortable conversation - mainly because of the respect we have for each other," he said.

Walker, 34, moved to the Serie A club after a dip in form at City where he was not getting game time.

"What he's [Guardiola] won at Manchester City, I've won it too. I like to think he knows what I bring to a dressing room, the atmosphere I create," said Walker.

"City was my family - from the cooks to the cleaners, the kit men and physios. I like to think I was liked and helped everyone blend in.

"But things weren't going well there and I wasn't playing enough football. Hopefully I can play a bit more here."

  9. Best January signings so far?published at 08:40 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Who has been the best signing of the January window so far?

It was a nightmare start for Manchester City's young Uzbekistan centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov after he gave a goal away and was booked within four first-half minutes against Chelsea, but it was a baptism of fire for the 20-year-old and he can surely only get better from there.

One of City's other signings, Egypt forward Omar Marmoush, looked a real handful and could become a brilliant player under Pep Guardiola.

The joint biggest January signing in the world (along with Marmoush) was Paris St-Germain's signing of Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for a reported £59m.

Santos are in talks to re-sign Neymar after he terminated his contract by mutual consent at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The 32-year-old Brazil international is expected to sign a short term deal at the club where he began his career.

The termination of his contract at Al-Hilal was considered the biggest step, according to sources close to Neymar, ending an injury-hit spell in Saudi Arabia, where he played just seven times for the club despite joining in a £77.6m deal in August 2023.

MLS club Chicago Fire also attempted to bring Neymar to the United States but he turned them down ahead of an emotional homecoming to his former club.

  12. Premier League spending by yearpublished at 08:26 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

As you might expect, it's the summer transfer window where clubs really splash the cash.

    Premier League spending by year
  13. Who has spent the most in the market so far?published at 08:20 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

As expected, Pep Guardiola has gone into the market to bolster his Manchester City team after a poor defence of their Premier League title.

City have made three big-money signings - with the potential of more to come.

City have signed Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush (£59m), Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis (£29.6m) and Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov (£33.6m).

They had not previously made a significant January signing since £57m Aymeric Laporte in 2018 and are one of three teams to sign three players so far this month, have spent the most in this window by far - £123m.

Ipswich, who are battling to avoid relegation, and Southampton, who already seem doomed on just six points, have also recruited three first-team players each.

There have been nine Premier League signings for £10m-plus, with City's the three biggest so far.

Ipswich Town spent about £20m to sign winger Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa, who in turn spent £19m to bring Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.

The next biggest deal saw Wolves pay £16.6m to sign Reims defender Emmanuel Agbadou.

Tottenham signed Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky for £12.5m and he went straight into the team because of problems for Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster.

  14. Transfer clock ticking as clubs spend bigpublished at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

There's still just less than a week to go before the January transfer window shuts but Premier League clubs have already spent £247m this month - up from last year's £90m total.

According to data from FootballTransfers.com,, external Manchester City are responsible for more spending this month - about £125m - than the other 19 Premier League clubs combined.

With another seven days left, the spending will likely rise but is unlikely to get near the 2023 record of £815m.

Ligue 1 is the next highest spending league this month, on £106m, although over half of that was PSG's £59m signing of Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

English Championship clubs have spent £44m, dwarfing the total £2m spent by Spanish La Liga clubs.

In fact, League One Huddersfield have spent more (in excess of £4m) than the 20 Spanish top flight clubs combined.

The English transfer window closes at 23:00 GMT on Monday, 3 February.

BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Austria defender Kevin Danso is a target for Wolves.

The Premier League outfit have already had a couple of bids for the 26-year-old turned down by his French club Lens, although it seems likely they will hit the right figure before next Monday's deadline.

Danso moved to the UK with his family at the age of six, so is well aware of the demands in the Premier League.

He also had a short spell on loan at Southampton, although he only made 10 appearances in the 2019-20 campaign.

Danso was close to joining Roma last summer but an issue arose with his medical which meant the proposed move collapsed.
