  1. Goodnightpublished at 22:45 British Summer Time 2 May

So a bad night for the only English team left in Europe.

That's the end of this live text now, thanks for joining us tonight.

We'll be back tomorrow for Luton v Everton in the Premier League. See you then.

  2. 'Villa will want to move on'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 2 May

    Alan Hutton
Former Aston Villa defender on TNT Sports

I think Aston Villa need to recover and regroup, it's a difficult season. The games are getting tougher, they'll reflect on it obviously, but they'll want to move on.

  3. 'It's human nature to protect what you've got'published at 22:43 British Summer Time 2 May

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Olympiakos

    Peter Crouch
    Ex-England striker on TNT Sports

I think if Aston Villa concede a goal, they're really going to struggle, but as long as they keep it tight, they've got pace to hurt them.

It's human nature to protect what you've got, but I think Olympiakos are better on the front foot, so it will be interesting to see how they come out.

"We didn't play like we are playing. We need to keep being consistent.

"They deserved to win. They are a good team. They have experience.

"It's not about luck. We didn't play well. We have to play better. They deserved to win.

On his message to his players: "Prepare for the match next Thursday. Try to play better, compete better."

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Amine Adli told Uefa.com: "We are very happy. We know it is not easy to play here.

"Last year we lost 1-0 here and we went out because of this result. We played a very serious game, we are very happy about it, even if I think we could do better.

"We had a lot of chances to score more goals but we are very proud of the team. In the second leg, we will do our best to go to the final."

Aston Villa go to Brighton on Sunday in the Premier League, but Olympiakos have the week off. Their next game is the second leg.

  7. 'I think it's doable'published at 22:31 British Summer Time 2 May

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Olympiakos

    Alan Hutton
Former Aston Villa defender on TNT Sports

I think it's doable for Aston Villa. It's going to be difficult - it's going to be some atmosphere. There are players that can produce something special, so I think it can happen.

Aston Villa captain John McGinn to TNT Sports: "Not the game we wanted. We wanted a lot more control. We started the game well.

"They're a good side. We wanted a victory going to Greece. We showed we're capable of coming back.

"Mistakes all round tonight. We'll take responsibility but it's up to us to go to Athens and turn it around because we're capable.

"They played very well tactically. They played the way we expected so there were no surprises.

"Everything that could have gone wrong tonight did.

"The manager was still positive in there. There's still a long way to go.

"We need to play a lot better than we did tonight but we're more than capable of doing it.

"Hopefully we'll have a few players back. The onus is on us to attack Olympiakos and score some goals.

"We have a mountain to climb but we know we're capable."

We're in for an absolute treat with these semi-finals if last years are anything to go by. People are moaning about them not being "showpieces", but I personally love different players reaching the latter stages and possibly winning tournaments. They're delightfully well matched.

Olsen will be disappointed but it's a team thing, not just a goalkeeping situation. The all-round performance defensively, as a team, has to be better.

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Aston Villa defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Douglas Luiz has had a vast improvement in his own individual performances since Unai Emery has come to the football club.

I think he misses Boubacar Kamara and the lovely balance they both have at Villa, but watching that performance tonight Luiz was short of what he is capable of doing.

Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

I cannot forget about the Maccabi Tel Aviv match when Olympiakos lost 4-1 at home then won 6-1 away.

It has been that kind of run for Olympiakos - you never know, there might be another twist in it.

  13. 'You have to give credit to Olympiakos'published at 22:17 British Summer Time 2 May

It's a difficult one to take tonight, but you have to give credit to Olympiakos. I thought they did really well, they were very aggressive themselves.

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

I can see that Villa are not far away and I can see that Unai Emery will have an easy job explaining this game.

He will think 'we are more efficient' and Olympiakos will not score four goals from five chances again - Aston Villa are still alive.

  17. Final is still 'achievable'published at 22:10 British Summer Time 2 May

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Olympiakos

    Rachel Corsie
Scotland and Aston Villa defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Olympiakos came here with a plan.

Villa found a lot more success in the second half, but they will need to be better in the second leg. Two goals down is very achievable.

  18. Postpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time 2 May

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Olympiakos

One thing we know for sure is any remaining Villa games in Europe this season will be in Athens.

The second leg of this is at Olympiakos' home ground - and the final will be held 10 miles away at AEK Athens.

  19. 'Olympiakos were dynamic'published at 22:06 British Summer Time 2 May

I am watching Douglas Luiz hold his arms up and apologising, he feels like he has cost his team.

Take nothing away from Olympiakos, they knew how vulnerable Villa could be in certain situations.

Olympiakos set traps all over the pitch and they were dynamic at the top end of the pitch.
