Walsall have progressed from their last three FA Cup ties against non-league sides, though their last two such eliminations have been via home defeats (2-3 v Lincoln 2012-13 and 0-1 v Macclesfield 2016-17).
In the FA Cup proper, two of Alfreton’s three victories have come against sides beginning with W, beating Wrexham in 2012 and Worthing in this season’s first round.
Having beaten Carlisle United at this stage last season, Walsall are looking to progress from the second round of the FA Cup in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1994-95/1995-96.
Alfreton Town have never previously reached the FA Cup third round. Their two previous ties in the second round both ended in defeat, losing 4-0 to Scunthorpe in 2008-09 and 4-2 to Leyton Orient in 2012-13.
