Northampton bounced back from an FA Cup defeat by Kettering to take a point at Birmingham

Birmingham were left frustrated after conceding in the final minute to draw 1-1 at home to Northampton in League One.

Despite dominating the opening stages, the Blues could have gone behind but Ryan Allsop did excellently to deny Jon Guthrie from close range after a breakaway chance.

As frustration about the hosts’ profligacy grew, they came close to taking the lead three times but well-executed blocks inside the Cobblers’ penalty area denied them on each occasion.

Northampton’s defence was eventually breached in the second half and, after reacting quickest during a scramble in the six-yard box, Jay Stansfield poked the Blues ahead in the 58th minute.

Just moments later, Cameron McGeehan picked up his fifth booking of the season, meaning he will miss the Cobblers’ game against Blackpool next weekend.

Chris Davies’ side were pegged back in the 97th minute when Mitch Pinnock capitalised on Dion Sanderson’s missed clearance.
