Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on his place at the club: "Football is the entertainment business - like when I go to watch a musical, I want to sit and enjoy it, forget about the world for two or three hours. It is the same at the football, we forget what is around us.

"You always come back to this, we are entertainers and we want to entertain our fans."

"To bring success to the club such a short space of time after a very long time, it's incredible memories. Making so many people so happy on that day was incredible. That's the most important thing above the trophies."

Crystal Palace v Fredrikstad (Thu, 20.00 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on whether they are favourites to win the Conference League: "It is important to stay humble, goal one is to qualify for the group stage. It is our first time in this competition, like every competition we want to go and win it. If we can do it, I don't know.

"I was at Wolfsburg, we lost in Europa League qualifiers to AEK Athens. So we always want to qualify, that is the goal. The final is too far away."

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on Marc Guehi: "There has been so much nonsense written. I have not met many colleagues more ambitious than me - Marc is one of them, and he was upset on Sunday.

"He was emotional after this game, exhausted. He was disappointed the goal was disallowed, that we did not win. It was written in a negative way, I see it as the opposite.

"This shows the development of Crystal Palace in the last few years, that we are not happy with just a draw at Chelsea."

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on Eberechi Eze: "The player gives 100% because he is under contract. We don't have to say thank you every day, he is getting a few pounds every week.

"Many of you were surprised he and Marc [Guehi] started against Chelsea, you may be surprised they start tomorrow, but they are committed to the team. They will play a crucial part for as long as they are here they are committed to the team. If they leave, they want to leave as the guys who gave 100% to Crystal Palace."

On whether the speculation has been difficult for Eze: "It is more difficult to me, as I have to speak to you. There are no problems."

Nobody is asking if it’s the transfer system that is unfit for purpose. I understand clubs wanting players to sign 5 or 6 year contracts to protect multi-million pound investments, but for most employed people you can leave your job with a few months notice at most.

Maybe there will be one or two changes, but since Sunday our players are completely recovered, so no reason to make a lot of changes."

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, on the club's demotion from the Europa League: "We shouldn't talk about it any more, we can't change it. This is the last time I will respond to this question. We deserve to play Europa League, we are the FA Cup champions. But, it was decided we would be demoted, so we will prepare.

"It is the first time Euro football will be played at Selhust, this is our reward for winning the FA Cup and we will enjoy it. Many fans did not expect us to play European football, so this is our approach."

The biggest challenge for Crystal Palace is to keep this fantastic team together.

Oliver Glasner has complained in recent news conferences about a lack of depth - and lack of new players coming in.

But for now, Palace remain a strong side, but they are likely to get weaker before they can reinforce their ranks.

Spurs are in talks to sign Eberechi Eze and Liverpool have held discussions over Marc Guehi, who is in the final year of his contract.

There was also a £35m bid from Atalanta for striker Jean-Philippe Mateta earlier in the summer while there are reports Manchester United are interested in signing Adam Wharton next year.

This Palace team, which won the club's first major trophy and secured European qualification for the first time in history last season, is potentially about to be picked apart by richer rivals.

That fact was not lost on the away support on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, who were heard chanting against former owner John Textor and Nottingham Forest's Evangelos Marinakis, having been demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League because of multi-club ownership rules.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner said he expected Eberechi Eze to feature in the club's first European fixture, despite the interest from Tottenham.

Speaking after the goalless draw against Chelsea, Glasner told Sky Sports: "There are a lot of rumours about Eze and Marc Guehi, but they were 100% with this group... and they have proved that in a big way."

On the future of Eze, Glasner added: "He will come tomorrow to the Crystal Palace training ground, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad."

Palace face Norwegian side Fredrikstad in the Conference League play-off round tomorrow (20:00 BST kick-off).

If Eze or Guehi play in Palace's Conference League qualifier, they would still be able to feature for another team in the league phase of European competition this season according to Uefa's rules.

Senior Football Correspondent Sami Mokbel update on Crystal Palace transfer latest

BBC Sport senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel says Tottenham and Crystal Palace remain in discussions over agreeing a fee for Eberechi Eze with a deal "relatively close."

"As things stand, there is no agreement between the clubs," Mokbel said.

"There are also another couple of complications with regards to Palace sanctioning that deal.

"They want one, or maybe two, new forwards over the line before they can let Eze go. But a deal between the clubs is relatively close."

Tottenham remain in talks with Crystal Palace for the signature of forward Eberechi Eze.

Eze featured for Palace against Chelsea in the Premier League opener on Sunday, and had a free-kick goal disallowed following VAR intervention in the goalless draw.

The England international has an expired release clause in his contract which was worth an initial £60m, plus a further £8m in add-ons.

It is understood Tottenham are negotiating an offer slightly below the total release figure.

Palace are also in talks over selling captain Marc Guehi to Liverpool.

If Guehi and Eze are sold, the money will be reinvested into the squad with Leicester attacker Bilal El Khannouss among the players Palace are interested in.

  20. Why Newcastle could do with Wissapublished at 13:08 British Summer Time

Brentford forward Yoane Wissa wants to join Newcastle, who need urgent reinforcement up front, given the current stand-off between the club and star striker Alexander Isak.

The 28-year-old Wissa has form in replacing big names, having had an impressive 2024-25 campaign filling the void left by Ivan Toney’s £40m departure to the Saudi Pro League last summer, a sale which heralded a change in Wissa’s role for Brentford.

He moved from an attacking midfield position/support striker position to centre forward and as a result was far more involved in the penalty box.

This change in emphasis resulted in the best scoring campaign of Wissa’s 12-season senior league career, with all 19 of his Premier League goals coming from inside the box.

The DR Congo international ranked second overall for open-play goals in 2024-25, level with Isak, and ahead of the likes of former team-mate Bryan Mbeumo and Mbeumo’s new Manchester United colleague Matheus Cunha.

It is a theme of Wissa’s top-flight career, with all 45 of his Premier League goals having been scored from open play. Going into this season, only Phil Foden (46) had scored more goals among players never to have converted a penalty since Wissa made his debut in August 2021.

Newcastle looked in need of a cutting edge in their Premier League opener at Aston Villa last weekend, and Wissa’s haul of 19 league goals last season make him an attractive proposition – if the price is right.
