Is Saka a must-have for the end of season?published at 15:09 British Summer Time 4 April

Bukayo Saka only needed seven minutes on his return from injury to score. So is the Arsenal attacker a must-have for the run-in?

Gianni: Arsenal’s talisman is back fit and amongst the goals already. Saka’s 24-minute cameo against Fulham saw him earn eight points including two bonus points.

Ahead of a good fixture run which includes a double gameweek against Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace in a fortnight, his ownership and price will surely be on the up.

But with two lots of 90 minutes (and possibly added time) likely for him in the Champions League against Real Madrid, it remains to be seen if his league minutes could be managed by Mikel Arteta in the coming weeks.

After three months out, if he’s eased back slowly, FPL managers could feel short-changed. If by the time double gameweek 33 comes around, he’s passing the test, he will very likely be in my team.

'Forest defenders are criminally overlooked'published at 15:06 British Summer Time 4 April

@FPL_Dandy: Hi Gianni, What are your top picks for a Gameweek 31 Wildcard which are different to those from a Gameweek 30 wildcard? Cheers.

Gianni: Gabriel was a firm part of the Wildcard template but I saw the likes of Phil Foden and Justin Kluivert in a lot of teams too.

Nottingham Forest defenders were (still) criminally overlooked for those that Wildcarded in GW30 and if I was on Wildcard this week,I would absolutely be covering the best defence in the league. No team has more clean sheets (13) and Neco Williams at £4.4m is a great option for those looking for a fourth defender that can be benched for trickier games.

Anthony Gordon could be worth a punt ahead of Newcastle’s double in GW32 and Morgan Rogers continues to look like the best budget midfielder in the game. He ranks 10th amongst midfielders for overall points.

Likewise, Enzo Fernandez has been Chelsea’s player of the season and is being encouraged to box crash as their number 8. He’s been in my squad for a while and I was delighted to see him score last night.

'Isak and Marmoush my picks for Triple Captain'published at 15:03 British Summer Time 4 April

Ricky from London: Hi Gianni, after some advice please. I have three chips remaining - a Wildcard, Free Hit and Triple Captain. What would be the best strategy to use, particularly with eyes on gameweek 32 to 34? Thank you so much.

Gianni: Well played on holding three chips for the run-in. Double gameweeks of 32 and 33 and likely 36 will give you some great opportunities to use the Triple Captain chip.

Alexander Isak in GW32 (home to Manchester United and Crystal Palace) is probably my favourite route but Gameweek 36 will likely give plenty of options too. Omar Marmoush could double against Southampton and Bournemouth if Manchester City win their FA Cup semi-final.

Depending on how your squad is set, if it isn’t looking particularly strong, I would be tempted to use the Wildcard in the next week or so knowing you have your Free Hit in hand to manage blank gameweek 34 which sees likely blank gameweeks for Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

You can then stock up on good players from these teams who all have double gameweeks on the horizon on Wildcard. If, however, your current squad is in good health, saving the Wildcard is an option. You could then Free Hit in either a double gameweek or in the blank of 34.

    Speaking of Marmoush...

A Triple Captain shout coming your way from Gianni.

I'd rather not talk about what happened with mine.

Every year I make a true mess of that. For clarity, if you want to check my pinned tweet on X - you'll see my recent record with that chip.

  6. In case you missed it – Haaland out for 5-7 weekspublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 4 April

The big news before gameweek 30 was Erling Haaland’s ankle injury. The Norwegian is going to miss a large chunk of the remainder of the season.

In his absence, Omar Marmoush (£7.5m) scored and took home nine points at home to Leicester City.

Alexander Isak of Newcastle United celebrates scoringImage source, Getty Images

Andrew, ITFC: How likely is Alexander Isak to play against Leicester City on Monday?

Gianni: Eddie Howe has said that his squad certainly has "a few niggles." We know Isak was substituted around the hour with a slight groin strain but he has five days to recover as Newcastle’s fixture away to Leicester is the final one of the gameweek.

With the fifth Champions league spot up for grabs, I expect Isak to start and if he doesn’t, the risk of a 10-minute cameo is pretty slim which is why he will likely be my captain. Just perhaps give your vice-captain a little more thought this week if you’re going down the same route as me.

  8. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 4 April

It looks like Gianni may be following suit with our Thomas on the Isak captain train.

I personally have Mohamed Salah with the (C) next to his name still.

Despite his recent form I can't seem to stray away. It scares me.

I'm going to let you make my decision for me.

Thumbs up for Isak. Thumbs down for Salah.

  9. Why captain Isak this week?published at 14:53 British Summer Time 4 April

    Thomas Woods
BBC Sport FPL writer, best finish 9,100th

It’s all about his opponent, Leicester City.

Look at these hauls against the Foxes in recent weeks:

Beto, Everton (week 24, 13 points)

Mikel Merino, Arsenal (week 25, 13 points)

Bryan Mbeumo, Brentford (week 26, 14 points)

Bruno Fernandes, Man Utd (week 29, 17 points).

I went against captain Salah last week with Omar Marmoush and it paid off with the Manchester City forward scoring and taking home three bonus points for an 18-point captain haul.

So why not try it again!

Isak is a slight injury doubt but you’re not going to sell him with a double gameweek next week so just make sure you’ve got a good vice captain selected.

And nothing wrong playing it safe with Salah. He’s been sensational all season but has only scored in one of his past three league games. Is he going through a little slowdown in form?

This is my team of the week for gameweek 31 and you can read the full article on the BBC Sport website.

It’s heavy on Newcastle, double Arsenal and captain Alexander Isak over Mohamed Salah (which always feels a bit risky!).

Who to bring in to replace injured Gabriel?published at 14:49 British Summer Time 4 April

    FPL Q&A with Gianni Buttice

Daniel Munoz of Crystal Palace shows the thumbs up to the Crystal Palace fansImage source, Getty Images

    Q. Arsenal's Gabriel will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring surgery. Who do you think are the best replacements for the defender?

Gianni: Gabriel is the most selected defender in the game but with him out injured, many FPL players will now move to Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol, who is the second highest owned. The Croatian has three clean sheets in his last six games as City finally start to look more solid at the back.

Likewise, William Saliba is a safe option knowing Arsenal have conceded the fewest goals this season, although without Gabriel and some other notable absentees, you expect their defence to be weaker.

Crystal Palace's Daniel Munoz, however, is my stand out pick. I sold Gabriel for Munoz in Gameweek 20 and have been hugely rewarded. Palace benefit from doubles in Gameweeks 32 and 33 and Munoz is arguably their best FPL asset.

He has three goals and five assists and is often the attacking outlet down the right for Palace. He also ranks second for attempts in the box, big chances and XG amongst all defenders in the game this season.

This is my team for week 31, before any transfers.

I’ve got £2.9m in the bank and a free transfer which will likely be selling Mykolenko for Tino Livramento – who faces Leicester this week and doubles in 32.

  14. Double gameweeks announcedpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 4 April

We’ve had double and blank gameweeks announced this week.

Many FPL fans will have been expecting this, especially if you’ve been paying attention to Ben Crellin’s spreadsheets on X, but Thursday brought official confirmation.

    Gameweek 31 - normal gameweek

Gameweek 32 - double gameweek for Newcastle and Crystal Palace

Gameweek 33 - double gameweek for Manchester City, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Crystal Palace

Gameweek 34 - blank gameweek for Manchester City, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Crystal Palace

  15. Who's a maybe to start?published at 14:40 British Summer Time 4 April

    So many!

Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest’s 174-point striker will be assessed before the trip to Aston Villa. He faces Everton at home next week so might be worth hanging on to if you can – but FPL managers have been selling him in their droves

Jurrien Timber and Ben White couldfeature against Everton and both might make decent Gabriel replacements in the long run

Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins is available "but we are taking care" according to Unai Emery. Make of that what you will.

Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount will be assessed tomorrow.

And forward Anthony Gordon is being "monitored" by the Newcastle medical team.

  16. Which big names are unavailable this week?published at 14:38 British Summer Time 4 April

Probably the biggest team news going into this weekend's games and some that will be forcing a lot of you into transfers...

Arsenal defender Gabriel is out and Bournemouth midfielder Justin Kluivert is a major doubt and likely be joining him on the sidelines this weekend.

More on both of them - and potential replacements later.

Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina is also out with a groin injury. That’s three of the top four defensive points scorers injured then – Aina, Gabriel and Trent Alexander-Arnold
