This is the first FA Cup meeting between Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City since the 1986-87 quarter-final, won 3-0 by the Sky Blues who won the competition for the only time in their history that season.
Coventry have eliminated Sheffield Wednesday from the FA Cup on four occasions, the most they have knocked out a single club. The only time in five ties that the Owls have beaten the Sky Blues was in the 1983-84 fourth round, winning 3-2.
Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a 4-0 win over Cardiff City in the third round, their biggest win in the FA Cup since November 2003 (4-0 vs Salisbury City). They are unbeaten in their last six at Hillsborough in the competition (W4 D2) since losing 1-0 to Man City in March 2020.
Coventry won 6-2 against Oxford in this season’s FA Cup third round, the first time they’d hit six in an FA Cup game since 1999 (7-0 vs Macclesfield). The Sky Blues haven’t reached the fifth round since the 2017-18 campaign.
Coventry’s Ben Sheaf has been involved in four goals in his last three appearances in the FA Cup (2 goals, 2 assists), scoring and assisting in their 6-2 win over Oxford in the third round this season.
