Champions League highlights: Atalanta 1-3 (Agg 2-5) Club Brugge

Club Brugge scored three first-half goals as they beat Serie A side Atalanta to progress in the second leg of their Champions League knockout play-off at Gewiss Stadium.

Chemsdine Talbi scored Club Brugge's quickest goal in the competition inside the opening three minutes, slotting into the bottom corner.

Christos Tzolis' shot was parried into the path of Talbi who finished from close range for his second goal.

Ferran Jutgla produced a fine finish into the bottom corner, after Davide Zappacosta and Juan Cuadrado hit the post in quick succession, to round off a scintillating counter-attack and give Club Brugge a 5-1 aggregate lead at the break.

Ademola Lookman came on as a half-time substitute and found the net just 34 seconds later - but also missed a penalty.

Lookman slotted in a low strike to give Atalanta faint hope but, after Cuadrado was fouled in the penalty area, his spot-kick was saved by former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

After the match, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini said Lookman is "one of the worst penalty takers" he has ever seen.

"Lookman was not supposed to take that penalty, he is one of the worst penalty takers I've ever seen," the Italian said.

"He has a frankly terrible record even in training, he converts very few of them. [Mateo] Retegui and [Charles] De Ketelaere were there, but Lookman in a moment of enthusiasm after scoring decided to take the ball and that was a gesture I did not appreciate at all."

To add to Atalanta's misery, captain Rafael Toloi was shown a red card in the 87th minute for pushing over Maxim de Cuyper when the Belgian defender prevented him taking a quick throw-in.

Club Brugge, who won the first leg 2-1, achieved their first away win against an Italian club in European competition since October 2003, when they beat AC Milan 1-0 in the Champions League.

The last-16 draw, which takes place on Friday, will decide whether the Belgian club face Aston Villa or Lille next month.
