Everton are close to ending their striker search with Villarreal's Thierno Barry expected to fly into Merseyside for a medical before completing a £27m deal.

The formalities are not completed yet, but the move is progressing with manager David Moyes ready to clinch Everton's biggest deal of the summer so far.

Barry had a £34.5m release clause in his Villarreal contract, but Everton expect to pay a lower fee for the 22-year-old, who scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 38 games last season as the Spanish club finished fifth in La Liga to qualify for the Champions League.

Laura, London: Fulham fan here and very concerned about being the only club without a signing on the 8:55 post of deals done so far. Think part of our drop off at the end of last season was a lack of squad depth - fingers crossed we can get some reinforcements soon and not leave it to a mad scramble on deadline day!

Get Involved - Isak & Elanga together could be 'something special'published at 09:38 British Summer Time

This is a deal that works for both clubs and the player. It's win win. It's a signing that will also help in securing Alexander Isak no doubt. Anthony Elanga and Isak under Howe has all the ingredients to be something very special. It also provides Jacob Murphy with some competition out on the right. If the Toon can get the James Trafford deal over the line and gain the services of a competent CB they will be in business. As for Forest? Well, £55m is £55m!

Tottenham's new signing Kota Takai is also a proven winner, having helped Frontale to two trophies during his short time at the club.

The 20-year-old defender also helped his side claim the Japanese Super Cup in 2024, beating 2023 J-League champions Vissel Kobe 1-0 in the annual match between the Emperor's Cup and J-League winners.

He was also named as the J-League's best young player.

Losing Elanga would be hugely disappointing as we [Nottingham Forest] seek to build the squad and challenge for top 6 again. He has been magnificent for us with his pace, assists and goals, but for £55m I think we have the opportunity to reinvest well and find a solid replacement. I just hope MGW [Morgan Gibbs-White] doesn’t follow him out.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has held face-to-face talks with Sporting in Portugal as the Premier League club move closer towards a deal for striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Well-placed sources have indicated that Berta fly to the Portuguese capital towards the end of last week for key discussions with Sporting counterparts over a deal that could be worth around £70m.

It is unclear if he returned to London over the weekend, but Berta's Portugal trip provides a clear indication towards the level of Arsenal's desire to finalise a deal quickly for Gyokeres.

An agreement over personal terms with the 27-year-old is expected to be a formality.
