PSV are winless in their last 16 away games against German sides (including GDR) in all competitions (D3 L13) since beating Eintracht Braunschweig in December 1977. When avoiding defeat away from home in the first leg of a UEFA Champions League knockout stage tie, Borussia Dortmund have always progressed to the next round. Their 1-1 draw in Eindhoven in the first leg was the sixth such instance of this happening.
Since beating Monaco 2-0 in the 2004-05 round of 16, PSV are winless in their last six away games in the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds (D3 L3). They’ve been eliminated on each of the previous three occasions they’ve failed to win the first leg of such a tie at home.
Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten in their last eight UEFA Champions League home games (W4 D4), though their last such defeat was in their last match against Dutch opponents (1-3 v Ajax). They last had a longer run without defeat at home in the competition between December 1996 and September 1999 (9).

With his penalty goal in the first leg, Luuk de Jong became PSV’s highest ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League with nine goals. Including the old European Cup, only Romário (11) and Willy van der Kuijlen (10) scored more for the Dutch side.
Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel has made 19 line-breaking passes to Niclas Füllkrug in the UEFA Champions League this season – the most between a goalkeeper and a forward teammate in the competition in 2023-24.
PSV’s Olivier Boscagli won possession 14 times in the first leg against Borussia Dortmund; the most by a defender in a UEFA Champions League game this season. Indeed, it was the joint-most by a PSV defender in a single game in the competition on record (since 2003-04) – also 14 by Héctor Moreno in December 2016 (v Rostov).
