For the second year in a row, Aston Villa and Argentina's Emi Martinez wins the award for world's best goalkeeper.

There are a few boos for Martinez as he gets up on stage. Clearly the French crowd have not forgiven the man who denied them in the 2022 World Cup final.

Our next award is the Yashin Trophy, for best men's goalkeeper.

Confusingly, striker Lautaro Martinez is going to present this award for the men who keep the forwards out.

We are back in the theatre, where the two Ballon d'Or trophies have been brought on stage.

This is the first time since 2003 that neither eight-time winner Lionel Messi nor five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo feature on the men's shortlist.

With Karim Benzema and Luka Modric - the only other previous recipients still playing - also omitted, a first-time winner is guaranteed in the men's category.

Rodri has done everything he has needed at club and international level.

He plays the role that doesn't usually get accolades but everyone recognises the value of it.

When Rodri got injured at half-time of the Euros final, the feeling in the stands, among the pundits, even the players, was 'what a gap to fill'. That tells you everyone realises he is the player who dictates the play. Everyone looks up to his leadership as well.

It is a great opportunity to give an award to an unsung hero. He will be top three but probably won't win it as people tend to favour the players who look good on the ball and are constantly in the highlights for the spectacular.

Kylian Mbappe is the best player in the world but I would give the Ballon d'Or to Rodri.

Rodri has been as important for his team as Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham have been for their team. That is what great players do.

Rodri has been the best player in the world for two seasons now. I know he isn't in an offensive position - he doesn’t score goals, do dribbles or tricks.

But he is the most intelligent player in his position in the world. He is super decisive and the last few years he has been outstanding for club and country. He deserves the Ballon d'Or more than anyone else.

Why would you give it to Rodri?

I understand he has had a great season and been the difference-maker for Manchester City. But he wasn't the standout player for Spain.

Vinicius Jr made a difference in every important match in the Champions League, so surely you should go for him. He was the difference between them winning and losing.

Rodri was just a part of a great team. Rodri deserved it last year because he was the difference between them winning and losing and I was upset he didn’t get it or come close to it.

This year I would take a difference-maker and that is Vinicius or his Real Madrid team-mate Jude Bellingham. My pick is Vinicius.

Lyon striker Ada Hegerberg won the inaugural Ballon d'Or in 2018 and since then Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas has won the award twice.

Retired American forward Megan Rapinoe was honoured in 2019 and Spain international Aitana Bonmati was crowned last year. There was no award in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"If you had told me 10 years ago, that I would be in this position, I would probably have laughed at you," Man City striker and 2024 nominee Khadija Shaw told BBC Sport.

"It goes to show that the game is evolving and we're growing. It's an individual award but the players I have around me make me look good.

"It's a special moment for us [at City]. All our efforts and hard work is being recognised."

We now have a short break. Hopefully to iron out the tech issues.

It got a bit cringeworthy at times there.

Harry Kane is cheekily asked by Didier Drogba what area of his game he could improve.

"My speed," he answers with a grin. "Although age might be catching up with me."

He's also asked if his German is improving.

"Nein."

Both Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane scored 52 goals in all competitions last season.

For both men, this is the first time they have won the Gerd Muller trophy, which was introduced in 2021.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announces that we have two winners of the best striker award - Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappe.

Only Kane is in Paris to accept the award, which is named after another prolific Bayern Munich forward.

Kane had a superb first season at Bayern - personally, even if the team didn't reach their usual heights - before captaining England to the final of Euro 2024.

Who knew Franz Beckenbauer could sing? We've been treated to a couple of 1960s music videos featuring Der Kaiser.

Anyway, on with the show. We now have the Gerd Muller trophy for striker of the year...

Sound issues sorted, we can hear from Franz Beckenbauer's wife Heidi and son Joel.

"He was a role model. He was never Der Kaiser at home, he was simply the best dad," adds Joel.

Another slightly awkward moment.

Real Madrid are named men's club of the year after winning La Liga and the Champions League last season.

Unfortunately there is no one in Paris to accept the trophy, as Real Madrid have boycotted this ceremony in protest over reports Vinicius Jr will not win the Ballon d'Or.

So, we move on quickly...

Rankings 10 through eight for the men's Ballon d'Or are announced.

Harry Kane comes 10th after his scoring exploits for Bayern Munich and reaching the Euro 2024 final.

Toni Kroos comes ninth, with Lamine Yamal eighth.
