Jonathan Russell and Max Watters scored either side of the break to earn Barnsley a dominant 2-0 win at Shrewsbury.
The Tykes went close in the opening minutes when Luca Connell played in Watters who lobbed goalkeeper Toby Savin, but Shrewsbury managed to clear off the line.
Barnsley broke the deadlock just before half-time through Russell, who collected the ball just inside the box from a corner to brilliantly fire home.
Town went close to a quick reply when Tom Bloxham hit a thunderous strike from outside the box, but keeper Ben Killip managed to parry for a corner.
Barnsley then flew out of the blocks in the second half when Watters skipped past the home defence to beat Savin at his near post.
The visitors could have made it three at the death when Fabio Jalo went one-on-one with Savin, but the keeper made himself big to deflect it for a corner.
Barnsley stay seventh, outside the play-off places on goal difference, while Shrewsbury 23rd, remain three points adrift of safety.
