Giovanni Di Lorenzo ensured Napoli remain at the top of Serie A by scoring the only goal in a narrow victory over strugglers Lecce.
Despite dominating possession and chances, Napoli struggled to find a way through a resilient Lecce defence.
But Di Lorenzo, who had a goal disallowed in the first half, broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when he tapped home after goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone fumbled Scott McTominay's header.
The result moves Napoli out of Inter Milan's reach, with Simone Inzaghi's side trailing by five points before they take on Juventus in Sunday's Derby d'Italia.
Lecce, meanwhile, stay in the danger zone in 19th with just five points from their opening nine games.
Antonio Conte's Napoli side take on fifth placed AC Milan on Tuesday, while Lecce host Verona.
