Josh Onomah helped Blackpool to a 2-1 win at Shrewsbury Town to drop the Shropshire side to the bottom of League One.

Shrewsbury won 3-2 against Birmingham City at home in Gareth Ainsworth’s first game but could not replicate that in his second fixture.

The hosts broke the deadlock inside the opening five minutes when Mal Benning’s free-kick from inside his own half bounced over goalkeeper Harry Tyrer and into an empty net.

Matt Pennington got on the end of a corner in the 20th minute and tried his luck from close range but Shrewsbury cleared.

The visitors equalised in the 52nd minute when a drilled cross into the box found Aaron Pierre, who poked the ball into his own goal.

Blackpool turned the game on its head minutes later when Onomah converted a thunderous strike from the edge of the box.

Shrewsbury went close just past the hour mark when John Marquis picked up a long ball but blasted his effort over the bar as they dropped to the foot of the table.
