The Copa Libertadores de América is an annual continental club competition, the highest in South American football. This year, for its 65th edition, the final will be held at the iconic Estadio Mâs Monumental in the Belgrano region of Buenos Aires. It will be the first time a final has been hosted in Argentina since they’ve been played as single matches, but the eighth time in tournament history that a final has been held at this stadium.
Botafogo and Atlético Mineiro are set to clash for the first time in the competition but follow a recent trend of Copa finals featuring two finalists from Brazil. This is the fourth all-Brazilian affair since 2020, the only exception being last year’s final between Fluminense and Boca Juniors. This will be Botafogo’s first final appearance after participating in the competition six times, whereas their opponents Atlético have one title to their name and 14 appearances overall.
