Olivier Giroud is the oldest player to score as a substitute in the Uefa Cup or Europa League
Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud netted the winning goal as Lille beat Brann in the Europa League.
The 38-year-old former France international, who joined the club in July after departing Los Angeles FC, nodded home a Tiago Santos cross at the back post to seal victory.
It means Giroud - who turns 39 on Tuesday - has now scored three goals in his five competitive matches for the Ligue 1 club.
He had struggled to make much of an impression during his time in the United States, scoring just five times in 37 games in all competitions.
Giroud - the all-time top scorer for his country - is playing in France's top flight for the first time in 13 years this season.
Hamza Igamane had opened the scoring for Lille after 54 minutes, sliding in at the back post to tap in after Matias Fernandez-Pardo ran down the wing before squaring the ball across the face of goal.
Saevar Magnusson equalised soon after for Brann, slotting inside the far post as the Norwegians countered, but Giroud's 80th-minute goal sealed victory for the French side.
Lille's league phase campaign continues on Thursday, 2 October, when they travel to Roma at 17:45 BST. Brann are at home to Utrecht at the same time.
