Crewe and Derby last faced in the FA Cup in November 1985, a 5-1 win for the Rams. The Railwaymen last eliminated Derby from the competition in January 1888 and should they do so in this game would have the longest gap between eliminating a side from the competition. Derby themselves hold that record against Barnsley (1896-97 – 2022-23).
Derby and Crewe haven’t met in any competition since August 2010 in the League Cup first round, with the Railwaymen winning 1-0 thanks to a Shaun Barker own goal.
Crewe Alexandra have progressed from three of their last four FA Cup first round ties, having only progressed from two of their previous 10 before this.
Derby County manager Paul Warne has progressed from three of his four FA Cup first round ties but the exception was a 2-1 away defeat to Crewe in 2017-18 when he was Rotherham United manager.
