  5. Northern Ireland overcome Latvia in U21 qualifierpublished at 16:00 GMT 15 November

    FT: Northern Ireland 1-0 Latvia

Northern Ireland beat Latvia 1-0 in their Euro Under-21 Championship qualifying match at the Oval.

Sam Glenfield's free-kick in the 60th minute proved enough to seal the crucial three points for the home side.

The result means that Northern Ireland leapfrog Germany and Georgia and move up to second position in Group F.

Tommy Wright's side now face group leaders Greece in Livadia on Tuesday, 18 November.

During a first half of few chances, Nikita Parfjonovs made a good save to stop Tom Atcheson's header before Stephen McMullan denied Valerijs Lizunovs' shot at the other end.

Before the break, Tommy Fogarty nodded Glenfield's delivery into the box narrowly wide.

Northern Ireland took the lead on the hour mark after Eoin Kenny was fouled just outside the box and Glenfield fired the resulting free-kick into the top corner.

Russell and Kirk both came close to doubling Northern Ireland's advantage shortly after but couldn't keep their efforts on target.

In the closing stages of the game, another good save from stopper McMullan denied Lativia a goal with the away side's wait for their first win of the campaign continuing.

  6. NI book play-off spot despite Slovakia losspublished at 15:58 GMT 15 November

    FT: Slovakia 1-0 Northern Ireland

Slovakia scored an injury-time winner to beat Northern Ireland 1-0 but results elsewhere ensured Michael O'Neill's side will still have a spot in the 2026 World Cup play-offs.

After their hosts in Kosice had two goals chalked off in the second half, Northern Ireland looked on course for a valuable point in their efforts to secure a top-two finish in qualifying Group A.

But substitute Tomas Bobcek struck in the first minute of added time to give his side a 1-0 victory that boosts their own hopes of making it to the World Cup in North America next summer.

The blow of a result that would have otherwise ended Northern Ireland's qualification hopes was considerably softened by events elsewhere.

Croatia's win over the Faroe Islands, which ensured Czech Republic will finish in the top two in Group L, leaves Michael O'Neill's side sure of taking one of four play-off spots held for Nations League group winners irrespective of where they finish in their own qualifying group.

I think if Crusaders come out in the second half and get the third goal, that kills the game.

However, if Glenavon can get it [the next goal], with Crusaders yet to win at home, doubt will creep in.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:48 GMT 15 November

    Crusaders 2-0 Glenavon

Two goals in as many minutes from Fraser Bryden is the difference at the break.

Truthfully, outside of this, there wasn't much between the teams but a clinical spell from the hosts sees them ahead.

    Portadown 1-0 Bangor

Ross Dunlop brings the first half to a close, and it’s the Ports who jog off with the spring in their step.

Eamon Fyfe’s sharp finish separates the sides, and Lee Feeney’s men cannot complain; they have barely laid a glove on this game since the opening spell.

Liam Hassin and Reece Neale are starting to show their frustration now, gesturing towards the visitors' frontline that has barely had a kick in the last 15 to 20 minutes.

The Seasiders just cannot get their attackers into the game, and it’s beginning to tell.

As things stand, Niall Currie's men are poised to haul themselves to within a single point of the top six, a position that felt a long way off during that recent losing run.

The away side, meanwhile, would slip out of the top half on goal difference.

That feels like a big moment for the Mid-Ulster outfit and an even bigger one for Eamon Fyfe, who moves on to six league goals for the campaign.

Lee Feeney will be sick of the sight of him too. He scored against the Seasiders in September, and he’s repeated the trick here.

Eamon Fyfe delivers for the Ports, drifting into space as Ben Wylie's lofted pass into the penalty area isn't cleared by the Bangor back line.

Fyfe rushes onto it and rifles a crisp finish into the far corner, to the delight of the home support.
