Kwame Poku has now scored 10 goals this season for Peterborough United
Kwame Poku scored a hat-trick as Peterborough produced a derby demolition in thrashing Cambridge 6-1 at the Weston Homes Stadium.
It is the second season running the Posh have defeated the U’s by a record margin - having won 5-0 last term - as the visitors’ run of five straight wins in all competitions without conceding a goal came to a crashing end.
Peterborough went ahead after 25 minutes when Jack Sparkes’ ball across was bundled in by Ricky-Jade Jones before Poku doubled their lead by tapping in Joel Randall’s low cross.
Poku added a third with a shot from the edge of the area that went in off the post before Malik Mothersille made it 4-0 at half-time with a penalty after Poku was pulled back by Liam Bennett.
Ryan De Havilland then scored a fifth for the Posh five minutes into the second half before Sullay Kaikai finally got Cambridge on the scoreboard with six minutes remaining.
But Poku had the final word in the 90th minute by firing past a helpless Vicente Reyes to complete his hat-trick and make it six.

'We were devastating' - reaction
Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
"It's fantastic, a great day for the fans, two seasons on the bounce.
"They actually started the game better than us, they were more aggressive, but once we scored, that period up to half-time, we were devastating.
"Kwame is unplayable at the moment, I would hate to play against him.
"If you are winning by five goals and don't keep a clean sheet, then so be it. You'd rather have that than a 1-0."
Cambridge head coach Garry Monk told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
"It's a bitter pill to take in any game, but especially a derby game.
"I thought we started super-strong, the first 20 minutes was exactly what we planned to do.
"Goals change games, and the quality they have, they were really ruthless and we didn't react well enough, we turned over the ball too much.
"The second half was a bit of a non-event, really, the game was out of reach at that point. I don't think the scoreline reflects the whole game, but it it what it is, we've got no excuses."
