Keinan Davis scored the goal that kept Udinese in Serie A in the 2023-24 season

Englishman Keinan Davis scored and assisted as Udinese beat Inter in a frantic encounter at San Siro.

Davis, 27, played for Aston Villa until 2023 and had spells on loan at Nottingham Forest and Watford.

Denzel Dumfries prodded home from close range to open the scoring for Inter after a fantastic run from Marcus Thuram, who surged into the Udinese box and flicked the ball into the air before setting up Dumfries.

But Inter lost their way after scoring and Udinese put them under pressure at the back, with Davis netting from the spot after Dumfries handled the ball in the box.

Udinese were the better side throughout the bulk of the half and Davis played a great through ball to Arthur Atta to whip an excellent effort inside the far post to put the visitors in front.

Such was Inter's lack of threat in the first half that striker Lautaro Martinez touched the ball just nine times. But they came out much improved after the break and nearly levelled through a well-hit Federico Dimarco effort, but his goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

Inter continued to press for an equaliser, throwing numbers at the Udinese defence, but the visitors' excellent last-ditch defensive efforts helped to defend their lead.

Inter have lost one and won one of their opening two games, while Udinese remain unbeaten having drawn with Verona in their first match.
