  8. 'I definitely think Maya can play right-back'published at 11:11 GMT

England manager Sarina Wiegman on Maya Le Tissier: "I think we have players but Lucy Bronze is still building her [fitness] and Niamh Charles is still building who can play there [right back].

"It's also what you need from the game. I definitely keep thinking Maya can play right-back and I know she can play centre-back too.

"It's about what the game is asking. This is the exact period to try. There are two years to go until the World Cup so I hope that we have many players that are going to challenge for that position."

  9. Le Tissier debate rumbles onpublished at 11:08 GMT

The main point of discussion before the match was which position Manchester United captain Maya le Tissier should play in.

Wiegman has made it clear she sees her as a right-back in the current England squad, despite Le Tissier playing her weekly football at centre-back for United.

The talented 23-year-old has started 72 consecutive games at centre-back in the Women's Super League, and in her 104 appearances for United has only played one at right-back.

Manchester United were keen to highlight this in a social media post last week, which sparked debate among supporters and thrust Wiegman's decision into question.

But against Brazil, Le Tissier started in the full-back role and moved to the middle with just under 40 minutes remaining.

  10. 'I just think it's bonkers'published at 11:06 GMT

England goalkeeper Khiara Keating, speaking after making her England debut on Saturday: "It felt like home and it was probably the best place for me to ever make my debut.

"I just think it's bonkers [being the first black female goalkeeper to play for England] and hopefully the gap for the next one isn't as big.

"Obviously times are changing now and football is going in the right direction, but I'm feeling dead proud."

It was a spicy encounter in which Brazil played with 10 players for over 70 minutes so we'll hear their thoughts on the performance.

They face Australia tomorrow and it's still an injury-hit squad but is goalkeeper Hannah Hampton fit enough to play?

She was absent from Saturday's defeat with a minor elbow injury and Wiegman said they would assess her to see how she is for tomorrow.

  14. What happened on Saturday?published at 10:58 GMT

    England 1-2 Brazil

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Etihad Stadium

Double European champions England's homecoming ended in defeat as 10-player Brazil scored two early goals to claim victory in a friendly at Etihad Stadium.

Playing their first match since winning Euro 2025 in July, and with several big-name stars missing through injury, England were rocked when Dudinha and then Bia Zaneratto put Brazil 2-0 up.

Goalkeeper Khiara Keating, making her England debut at the home of her childhood club, could do little about either goal.

The Lionesses were aided in their task to mount a comeback as Brazil midfielder Angelina was shown a straight red card for a pull-back on Ella Toone in the 21st minute.

Georgia Stanway got a goal back shortly after the break from the penalty spot, before hitting the crossbar late on as England pushed for an equaliser.

Sarina Wiegman made several changes which had an impact, including moving Manchester United captain Maya le Tissier from right-back to centre-back, but Brazil's tireless defending paid off.
