In today’s market you would find it a challenge to recruit a player who regularly delivers offensive numbers for less than £10m, but it looks as if Bournemouth have.

At just £9m, Justin Kluivert is a vital part of Andoni Iraola's Cherries, delivering exactly what the coach wants from his number 10 position and backing it up with impressive numbers.

History was made at the weekend when he became the first player to score a hat-trick of penalties in a Premier League fixture, a treble that he took with ease from the spot. The calm and composed nature of Kluivert's penalties epitomised the Dutchman - a real fans favourite whose dedication to his specific role under Andoni Iraola often goes under the radar.

The fact all three goals were from the spot also took many Cherries fans back to what now seems a sliding doors moment. With our previous penalty taker Dom Solanke no longer at the club, we had no idea who would step up when we won our first of the season at home to Chelsea. Solanke's replacement Evanilson took the responsibility, but unfortunately saw his penalty saved, meaning we would have to think again when the next spot kick was awarded in our favour. That moment came against Arsenal, where Kluivert stepped up and coolly slotted home. Since then, we have never looked back.

In general there are many things to love about how Kluivert goes about his business. Currently walking that suspension tight rope on four yellows is evidence to the nature of his aggressive pressing, something that Iraola instils in his players.

There is definitely more to come, but at £9m, he already feels like a real bargain.

We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Wolves and Bournemouth.

Here are some of your comments:

    Wolves fans

Johnny: Absolutely disgraceful. Jose Sa should not be paid for that performance. Everyone is blaming Gary O'Neil but, let's face it, the players out there constantly gave the ball away. Wolves will be relegated come the end of the season - and deservedly so. Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Jorgen Strand Larsen will be gone in January. The club is on a downward spiral.

Tony: Looks like the Championship beckons with such schoolboy errors. I don't think a change of manager will make the slightest difference, if Wolves continue displaying such errors. I assume Sa wants away from Wolves with that display.

Philip: Dreadful performance. Our defence this season is a disaster and Gary O'Neil has to take full responsibility for not sorting this out. We were giving the ball away far too often, as per usual, and a useless final 20 minutes of capitulation and defeatism. It is a mess, with no discernible pattern of play. We need a more experienced coach at this level, and fast.

Nathan: Clumsy at the back again and Sa had a shocker! Three penalties is unacceptable. We are OK going forward but we must fix the problems at the back!

    Bournemouth fans

Greg: So pleased to finally be performing against a side we should be beating. Bournemouth always seem to struggle against sides lower in the table. Evanilson is starting to show some real class in the press and he is giving defenders problems. A big team performance, playing Iraola-ball with high energy.

Charl: Bournemouth were impressive throughout the whole team, especially the midfield. Ryan Christie was outstanding, David Brooks was very near to his previous best and Tyler Adams is immense. Special praise must go to Evanilson - he never gave up and he battled for every ball, causing Wolves so many problems. Magic.

James: Evanilson may not be scoring prolifically, but his work rate is superb and it was Wolves' inability to handle him that earned them the penalties which were calmly despatched by father-to-be Justin Kluivert. His historic hat-trick of penalties will be what is remembered from this match, but sadly Christie's masterclass in midfield will largely be overlooked.

  5. Murphy praises Cherries' 'high risk but high reward' stylepublished at 07:46 2 December 2024

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has praised Bournemouth's "intensity" and "bravery" during their 4-2 win over Wolves at Molineux.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy said: "They were absolutely incredible. It was their bravery to be intense in the press, high up the pitch. But, not just that, it was also the quality they had when they won the ball back.

"Five men against five men, away from home in the Premier League, is brave. High risk but high reward, and they did it so well. They played with freedom, their work ethic is great, it is all in unison, there is good communication and they obviously work hard at it.

"You have got overlaps, you have got skills, you have got vision. At times, there were six of them in the box and that is the type of commitment I'm talking about. They are committed to pushing players forward.

"They are always keen to win the battles in midfield. It is like: 'If you don't get it, where is your team-mate who is going to get it?' Then, when they win it, they can just go.

"They actually missed some really good chances. They were cutting through Wolves so comfortably.

"They have been given the freedom by their manager [Andoni Iraola] and what he is doing on the training ground is paying dividends for them."

Justin Kluivert became the first player to score a hat-trick of penalties in an English top-flight match since the 1950s as Bournemouth returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory at struggling Wolves.

However, Andoni Iraola, speaking to the media after the match, was quick to praise forward Evanilson, who won all three of the penalties, which Kluivert converted.

Although not on the scoresheet, Iraola was delighted with the Brazilian's efforts and added: "Evanilson has made the difference. He has been fighting with the centre-backs and the keeper. He was phenomenal.

"Evanilson didn't score today, but he is why we won. He has won five penalties this season and we have scored four.

"It is very difficult to score three penalties in one game. Justin is someone who gives us a lot, also without the ball. He is someone who understands we need his work-rate. He is giving the team a lot."

Bournemouth had lost their past two matches, but this was a fine return to form as the Cherries moved up to 11th in the Premier League table.

Justin Kluivert became the first player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick of penalties in a single match, with team-mate Evanilson also becoming the first player to win three penalties in a single match in the competition.

Meanwhile, Kluivert scored the first two of his three penalties for the Cherries in the opening 18 minutes. It is the earliest a team has ever scored twice from the spot from the start of a Premier League match.

  10. 'Evanilson has made the difference today'published at 17:41 30 November 2024

Head Coach Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth after his sides 4-2 win during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and AFC Bournemouth at MolineuxImage source, Getty Images

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has been speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the away victory: "Very pleased with the performance and the win. We have played well without getting points in the last two games. We needed the win and the performance.

"In the first-half, we were very dangerous and the press was working well. We deserved this. We are trying to put pressure on them, don't let them feel comfortable.

"Evanilson has made the difference today. He has been fighting with the centre-backs and the goalkeeper. He was phenomenal.

"Justin [Kluivert] has played against my teams in Spain many times, and has also scored penalties. Justin is normally quite confident in those situations.

"The first two were clear. For the third one, I thought maybe he is not the one to take it. But also, in the moment, I didn't want to be the one to tell him.

"Every time you take another penalty, it becomes more difficult because you are giving the goalkeeper more information.

"But I would also like to acknowledge Evanilson. He didn't score today but he is [the reason] why we won."

Hat-trick hero Justin Kluivert has been speaking to Premier League Productions following the win.

On becoming the first player to score three penalties in one Premier League game: "That sounds beautiful, to go in the history books. That is amazing. I'm super happy with it.

"I train them [the penalties]. We have a great goalkeeper, Kepa [Arrizabalaga]. We try some stuff.

"The first one, I stop and look at the keeper, what is he doing? I switched it up for the second one. Then the third one, he doesn't know what I'm going to do. I waited and he chose for me. Easy as that.

"We have shown that we can beat a lot of teams in this league. I am happy."

On where he will put the match ball: "I will put it in my daughter's room, waiting for her to come in February, and she can see how I did it."

On cutting team-mate Milos Kerkez's hair this week: "Yes, I've been cutting his hair and since then he has been contributing to goals. I'm going to up my price a little bit!"

  12. Sutton's predictions: Wolves v Bournemouthpublished at 11:05 30 November 2024

Chris Sutton and Sunny Edwards predictions banner

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against a variety of guests.

For week 13, he takes on boxer Sunny Edwards who is a Chelsea fan.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-2

Fair play to Wolves boss Gary O'Neil for his side's run of form. They are on a gentler run of fixtures now, after such a tough start to the season, and with two wins and two draws from their past four games it looks like they have turned the corner.

Even so, it is fair to say I did not see Wolves' big win at Fulham coming, but Matheus Cunha is on fire at the moment and will take some stopping here.

I don't think Bournemouth will keep Wolves out but they always create plenty of opportunities themselves. They were unlucky to lose to Brighton last time out, and it was a similar story against Brentford as well.

I am expecting goals in this game too, but this time the Cherries will get a battling point.

    Edwards' prediction: 3-1

I always thought Wolves were better than the league table suggested.

  13. Iraola on Semenyo, two defeats and Wolves' 'difference-maker' Cunhapublished at 10:08 29 November 2024

    Millie Sian
    BBC Sport journalist

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League game against Wolves (kick-off 15:00 GMT).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • There are no fresh injury concerns. There are "one or two players with small things" but he is hopeful they will be available on Saturday.

    • Ryan Christie is back in contention after serving his one-match suspension, but Antoine Semenyo is unavailable after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Brighton.

    • Semenyo is "a player you don't want to lose" but the club is using the forward's suspension as "a small break" and a chance for him to "deload" after featuring in all 12 Premier League games so far this season.

    • On the past two "difficult games", which resulted in two defeats for the Cherries: "We weren't as efficient as we were in other games. If we are not close to 100%, we don't win games. We have to improve in the moments when the points are shared."

    • He is anticipating another "difficult game" against Wolves, who have won their past two league games: "They are surely in their best moment of the season. They come to us without any losses in their past four. We have to be ready for a very good team. We have to be at their level."

    • There is "no surprise" that Wolves have turned their form around: "In their first run of fixtures, it was very difficult because they played against all of the top teams. A similar thing happened to us last season. Now they have had more games against teams around their level, they have been very good."

    • He praised Gary O'Neil for doing "a hell of a job" during his time at Bournemouth, highlighting "how difficult it is to survive" in the Premier League after promotion and the fact that the Cherries did it under his management.

    • Matheus Cunha is the "difference-maker" for the opponents: "Every team has players who don't need a lot to score, make big plays or give an assist. Cunha is that player. I know him very well because I also played against him in La Liga when he was at Atletico Madrid. He is a top player."

  14. Wolves v Bournemouth: Did you know?published at 11:57 28 November 2024

No team has scored more goals from substitutes in the Premier League this season than Bournemouth.

With all five such goals being scored by different players, the Cherries also boast the most different sub scorers in the division this term.

  15. Will Brooks' patience be rewarded?published at 11:01 27 November 2024

    Mark Mitchener
    BBC Sport senior journalist

David Brooks is a player who knows all about patience.

It is strange to think that it is now fully six years since the Warrington-born Wales midfielder lit up Vitality Stadium after joining from Sheffield United, earning himself a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2018-19, the first Cherries player to be so honoured.

Nominated alongside household names Trent Alexander-Arnold, Marcus Rashford, Declan Rice, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva, Brooks also won the Football Association of Wales' player of the year and young player of the year gongs that season, and it seemed that his career would continue its upward trajectory.

The first setback came in the summer of 2019 in a pre-season friendly at Brentford, when an innocuous-looking challenge, as a Bees defender tried to block a Brooks cross from which Dominic Solanke scored, kept Brooks out for nearly a year.

Relegation to the Championship and multiple changes of manager followed, but Brooks' toughest test came in October 2021 when he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 24. Even after receiving the all-clear the following May, niggling injuries during his rehabilitation meant Brooks did not step onto a Premier League field until March 2023.

Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth's sixth manager in three years, showed faith in Brooks by handing him the captaincy for some cup games, but with plenty of options in the wide positions, and Wales' team management openly touting their players for transfers in the hope of earning them more minutes before Euro 2024, Brooks was allowed to join Southampton on loan for the second half of last season - though as the player reaffirmed to BBC Radio Solent on Saturday, there was never any chance of a permanent switch.

As it turned out, Wales missed the Euros anyway after losing a play-off, while Brooks dislocated his shoulder in the Championship play-off final and missed the start of the new campaign. But his patience was rewarded with a goalscoring substitute appearance in Saturday's defeat by Brighton.

And with Antoine Semenyo missing Saturday's game at Wolves with suspension, it could be finally time for Brooks' patience to properly pay off.

  16. 'It is now the moment for many to give Iraola selection headaches'published at 12:31 26 November 2024

    Tom Jordan
    Fan writer

Despite a mightily impressive start to the campaign, the weekend's loss means that Bournemouth now have back-to-back defeats to their name, so what has changed?

In general - not an awful lot, as the side are still creating a hatful of chances and playing attractive football, but maybe some big injuries and suspensions have caught up with the Cherries.

It feels as if it is the first time in the season Andoni Iraola has really had to call upon some of the more fringe players, and it is now many of the players' chance to grab said opportunity.

The main positive from Bournemouth's home defeat by Brighton, however, was the impact of David Brooks.

Limited to very few minutes so far, Brooks came on and took his moment with a delightful finish in the latter stages. Such impact from the bench will have put a smile on Iraola's face, particularly with key man Antoine Semenyo ruled out of the next fixture after picking up his fifth booking of the season.

Ryan Christie returning will be a huge boost for the side after his suspension was served, but the loss of Semenyo, twinned with Marcos Senesi and Justin Kluivert walking the booking tight rope, certainly means those fringe players will have opportunities to try and impress very soon.

Tyler Adams has been a welcome return to the group, and the club hope Luis Sinisterra is not far away either.

With a busy fixture list ahead, and the inevitable bumps and bruises along the way, it is now the moment for many to give Iraola selection headaches moving forward.

Brooks delivered, now for some more to do the same.
