  1. Arteta on Zubimendi, seeking more signings and ownership's supportpublished at 07:44 BST 21 July

Mikel Arteta has been speaking to the media in Singapore before Arsenal face AC Milan on Wednesday in the first game of their pre-season tour (12:30 BST).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • He said they are "super excited" to be in Singapore for the first stop of their Asia tour and have had an "incredible welcome from supporters here".

    • On signing four new players: "It's like shaking the tree again. New faces bring excitement, a new energy as well. I think everybody feels that the heights have to go to different level and it's what we are seeking."

    • He denied there is a psychological stumbling block to reaching that next level, saying it "it is the daily work" and "the basic things that we need to have throughout the season to put us in the best probability to achieve our goals."

    • Arsenal are "very excited" about midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who signed from Real Sociedad, as they "are all very impressed" by what they have seen so far.

    • He couldn't comment on the reported move for Viktor Gyokeres, but added: "There's still a long time in the window and we are still seeking. In terms of numbers, we are short and we have to improve the depth and quality of the squad. We are constantly looking in the market."

    • On the support he has received from the board: "You see the club ownership and ambition we have and the alignment. There is an excitement about the new season. Super positive about it."

    • Finally, defender Gabriel "looks in good shape" after recovering from a hamstring injury and the others that also missed the end of the season "all look to be going in the right direction and contributing on the tour."

    "This season will be different."

It is a bullish statement, but did you expect anything less from Arsenal centre-back Gabriel?

The Brazil international knows they have "let titles slip" but wants to address that in 2025-26.

Noni Madueke wears an Arsenal shirt and points at the camera up closeImage source, Getty Images

After Noni Madueke was confirmed an Arsenal player, we asked what you thought about the deal and also how you felt about it being yet another signing from Chelsea.

    You told us:

Aarav: As much as I dislike it, it does make sense. Chelsea players already live in London, so transferring to Arsenal wouldn't require the hassle of relocating, selling their home and moving their families. Additionally, due to FFP regulations, Chelsea need to offload several players, which means Arsenal could secure some quality signings at reasonable prices.

Simon: As an Arsenal fan, I'm all for it as long as its not has-beens coming our way. Sterling was awful, David Luiz was one of our worst transfers ever. They seem to have turned it the other way now as Madueke is young with potential and Kepa is an experienced back up option for a good price. Can they take Gabriel Jesus?

Don: It doesn't matter who a player is bought from as long as he strengthens the team. Now let's get a striker signing over the line!

Lee: I saw a great post saying look what Arsenal and Arteta got out of Havertz, so imagine what they can do with Madueke. A fantastic signing for our squad. Just bring on Eze and Gyokeres now !

Rob: I'm actually really worried about Arsenal in the new season! I get the Mosquera, Norgaard and Zubimendi signings but I'm not so sure about Gyokeres or Madueke! I think the price and wages for both players are too high! Gyokeres is a fantastic athlete and a strapping young man, but his first touch is poor and his ability to link up play average! Madueke has pace and power but no end product. Ask a Chelsea fan how many times Madueke has skinned a player and failed to deliver a shot, pass or cross in last third. Too many times I tell you! We need guys who are going to push the ones we have! Vlahovic is down to his last 12 months at Juventus and Harvey Elliott or Eberechi Eze would be a far more uplifting signing than Madueke!

The idea of a player crossing the divide and joining a bitter rival can seem almost like sacrilege for fans.

Even if that player has won the biggest of prizes or scored the most important of goals, it often does little to temper the disgruntlement of supporters when they meet again.

And yet, that seems to do little to deter transfers between west and north London.

With Noni Madueke becoming the latest to move from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates, it continues a recent trend of transfers between Arsenal and Chelsea.

Before the top flight became the Premier League, there had been just six transfers between the two clubs, going all the way back to the 1950s when Billy Dickson traded west for north London in 1953.

In contrast, since the turn of the century there have now been 13 such switches.

There was the infamous moves of Ashley Cole and William Gallas in 2006 - heading in opposite directions - and, more recently, Chelsea's Champions League final hero Kai Havertz joining Mikel Arteta's side.

What is most notable, however, is the one-sided direction the transfers have been taking.

Of the 13 that have happened in the Premier League era, 11 of those have been players - whether a sale, loan or free transfer - heading from the Blues to the Gunners.

The reason why will vary from footballer to footballer and transfer to transfer - Arsenal may be looking for experience while Chelsea eye up youth, or the player could want a move without disrupting family life.

Whatever the motive, the trend for this particular trip across London appears to increasing, even if fans' tolerance to it might not.

How do you feel about Arsenal bringing in players from Chelsea? Can you look past the rivalry? Or does it make it harder to get behind the new signing?

  5. 'I think it's going to be a great success' - Madueke completes movepublished at 17:24 BST 18 July

Noni Madueke signing Arsenal contractImage source, Getty Images

Noni Madueke says he "can't wait to bring my style" to Arsenal after completing £48.5m move from Chelsea..

The 23-year-old has joined on a five-year contract, with his fee rising to just over £50m with add-ons.

Madueke made 92 appearances for the Blues after joining from PSV Eindhoven for £30m in January 2023 and scored 20 goals, helping them win the Conference League last season.

He was part of Crystal Palace and then Tottenham's academy before spending four-and-a-half years in the Netherlands, where he won the Dutch Cup.

Speaking to Arsenal's website he said: "I'm somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it's steered me in the right direction so far. So, I don't think it's going to be any different here. I think it's going to be a great success and I'm really happy to be here.

"I've just been relaxed, waiting for the green light and when I came in today, it all felt real. I'm really happy and really proud, so it's a great moment for me. It's great to go back home, be with my mum, my dad. I know my mum misses me in the house!

"It's already a great team with a clear identity and I can't wait to bring my style to the team and try and help the boys as much as possible to take that next step.

"To win all the competitions we're in [is the goal], I feel like we're definitely capable of doing that. And also to help the team in every way I can and grow as a player, but also as a person."

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta added: "We're all so happy to welcome Noni Madueke to the team.

"Noni is an exciting and powerful young player, with his performances and numbers in recent seasons being of consistently high quality. He is one of the most talented wide forward players in the Premier League.

"At just 23, Noni already brings experience of club and international football, and he knows the Premier League very well. Having seen the quality of Noni's performances up close in recent seasons, we're really excited he is joining us."

  6. Why might Arteta want Madueke?published at 17:19 BST 18 July

    BBC Sport football news reporter

You can see why Mikel Arteta might be excited about the prospect of signing Noni Madueke.

His expected goals (9.6), his number of shots (80), touches in the opposition box (199) and progressive carries with the ball (242) were all higher than Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka in the Premier League last season.

Saka only played in 25 league matches compared to Madueke's 32, so it is a fairer comparison with Martinelli, who played 33 times.

Madueke also contributed a combined 10 goals and assists to Chelsea last season and could boost Arsenal's much-criticised attack.

Injuries plagued Arteta's side last season and they ended the season with limited options in the final third as they fell away in the title race.

Madueke is one of the most direct wingers in the league and Arsenal, who mainly play against teams who defend deep against them, could benefit from his eagerness to beat his defender and get a shot at goal.

The table, titled "Martinelli v Madueke v Saka" and attributed to the BBC, compares various performance metrics for each player, including:
Games Played: Martinelli (33), Madueke (32), Saka (25)
Minutes Played: Martinelli (2300), Madueke (2046), Saka (1735)
Goals: Martinelli (8), Madueke (7), Saka (6)
Expected Goals: Martinelli (7.4), Madueke (9.6), Saka (6.9)
Shots (inc. Blocks): Martinelli (55), Madueke (80), Saka (67)
Touches: Martinelli (1083), Madueke (1077), Saka (1094)
Touches in the Opp Box: Martinelli (195), Madueke (199), Saka (181)
Assists: Martinelli (4), Madueke (3), Saka (10)
Goals + Assists: Martinelli (12), Madueke (10), Saka (16)
Dribbles Completed: Martinelli (33), Madueke (45), Saka (41)
Dribble Success Rate: Martinelli (33%), Madueke (45.9%), Saka (50.6%)
Progressive Carries: Martinelli (216), Madueke (242), Saka (192)

Arsenal have received an approach from Fulham to re-sign attacker Reiss Nelson.

The structure of the deal, which is likely to be a loan, is still to be finalised but talks are ongoing as all parties try to find a resolution.

Arsenal leave for their pre-season tour of Asia on Saturday and, with Nelson available to leave this summer, there could be a benefit in concluding any transfer before then.

Gunners academy graduate Nelson spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage, making 12 appearances under Marco Silva before his season was cut short by injury.

Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri has agreed a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.

BBC Sport revealed on Sunday that the Gunners were set to make a formal offer to Nwaneri this week with the clear direction of travel being the youngster committing his future to the club.

It is understood the new contract is for up to five years.

Sources have indicated the size of the new contract represents Nwaneri's position as one of European football's best young players with the Gunners reflecting his growing status with a new lucrative deal.

Talks over fresh terms have accelerated in recent days amid a will from all parties to reach an agreement.

While the deal has not been formally signed, BBC Sport understands the remaining steps towards Nwaneri putting pen to paper should be a formality.

Cristhian Mosquera in action for ValenciaImage source, Getty Images

Arsenal's impending move for Valencia's Cristhian Mosquera would give Mikel Arteta formidable strength in depth at centre-back.

In addition to the first-choice pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel, the Gunners can also call upon Jakub Kiwior and, while Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber and Ben White have mainly featured at full-back for the club, all three had plenty of experience in central defence before joining.

Kiwior normally provides cover for fellow left-footer Gabriel and filled in successfully when the Brazil international missed the final eight weeks of last season through injury. Mosquera is therefore initially likely to serve as dedicated back-up for Saliba as the right-sided centre-back.

But one of the advantages to recruiting Mosquera is his ability to play in either channel. The Spaniard's breakthrough campaign was in 2023-24, when 85% of his league minutes for Valencia came as the right-sided centre-back. The following year, the emergence of Cesar Tarrega meant Mosquera was often moved to the left, making 62% of his appearances there.

While Arsenal released the versatile but injury-plagued Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer, the signing of 21-year-old Mosquera should mean the Gunners have more than enough defensive options available.

  14. The case for Maduekepublished at 12:59 BST 11 July

    Your views banner
Noni Madueke of Chelsea arrives at Emirates stadiumImage source, Getty Images

We asked for your views on why certain Arsenal fans have voiced opposition to the expected signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea.

Here are some of your comments that are more positive on the move:

Andrew: The key word is "online". These people signing petitions aren't Arsenal fans - they live in some parallel fantasy universe on social media where football is viewed like a video game. I'm a season ticket holder and people who go to games believe in Mikel Arteta and trust his judgement because he's usually right. Madueke might not be an exciting signing now, but he could prove to be a very good one. Nico Williams was never coming, Rodrygo is a waste of money, Anthony Gordon is overrated and I don't think this affects Eberechi Eze. We'll see how it all works out.

Andrew: I quite like what I've seen of Madueke. Don't know what all the fuss is about. Think he could be a good acquisition due to his flexibility of being able to play on both flanks.

JR: Personally I think if we had a striker sorted before this, everyone would be happy with Madueke. Seems like a good back-up to Bukayo Saka and it will also make the squad better than last season.

Callum: I get the anger at the fact we are signing another Chelsea player, but the whole thing of signing a petition to make him not sign is embarrassing. When he puts on the shirt, he will be backed. A good player, but high fee and having played for Chelsea has sadly already written him off for most.

Oli: I can see why Arsenal have gone for this, young winger and Andrea Berta probably cares more about strengthening Arsenal than paying a rival. It just hurts to see Chelsea's strategy start to pay off with how much they've gotten out of this deal.

Damo: Madueke is a young player who has undoubted quality and an ability to beat defenders. Not sure what the fuss is about. Good signing in my opinion. Leandro Trossard is decent but is 30 and Gabriel Martinelli isn't progressing.
