'For the sake of the player, he has to go'published at 10:43 15 August

The Telegraph's Luke Edwards believes Arsenal have to reduce Aaron Ramsdale's price tag to let him leave before the transfer window closes on 30 August.
Ramsdale, who is second choice to David Raya, has received a lot of interest this summer, with Ajax the latest club to be linked.
"He needs to play," said Edwards on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "He has gone from being number one at Arsenal and the back-up to Jordan Pickford for England to just playing in cup games last season.
"It is no secret that he needs to move for his career and there has been interest in him for a while. He is a very good goalkeeper but is it the asking price that they have been quoting that has put those teams off.
"Obviously Arsenal will want the money, but for the sake of the player he has to go."
Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson added: "I would be knocking the manager's door down! He lost his place and he never did anything wrong. He is an excellent goalkeeper.
"You understand that managers make decisions for certain situations and you cannot question why Mikel Arteta did it, but he is a quality goalkeeper. Ramsdale wants to be in the England fold, so he has got to get out there and play football.
Phil McNulty's predictions - Arsenalpublished at 08:58 15 August
08:58 15 August
It's that time of the year again - the annual act of foolishness in which I try to predict the outcome of the 2024-25 season for all 20 Premier League clubs.
Arsenal - second
Mikel Arteta's side - lifted to a new level by the arrival of Declan Rice - pushed Manchester City even closer for the title last season but could not maintain the levels of near perfection needed to keep them at bay.
I am backing them to give City the closest run for their money again this season given the all-round talent the Gunners possess.
The signing of Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori bolsters an already strong area of the side but Arsenal must surely be in the market for a proven goalscorer before the close of the transfer window, a component still lacking for all last season's excellence.
The title may be out of reach once more but they will definitely be in contention for silverware. They will also have the experience of last season's Champions League campaign to call on.

Dig into the data - what will season deliver?published at 12:06 14 August

The bittersweet truth for Arsenal fans is that their team did not do a whole lot wrong last season, with the best expected goal difference in the league showing that they would’ve been worthy champions.
But unfortunately there was just one chair to sit in when the music stopped.
There are areas to improve in that could make the difference this time around. Despite scoring 91 goals thanks to their finishing, the Gunners had the fewest shots and lowest xG out of the top three so creating more ammunition to score with could reap rewards.
While they had the best defence, Arsenal conceded slightly more goals than their xG whereas both Manchester City and Liverpool conceded fewer. David Raya let in three more goals than expected given the quality of chances he faced, so a strong shot-stopping season from him could get them over the line.

Where will you finish in the league and why?
Arsenal will win the league this year. Mikel Arteta is five years into his project at Arsenal, but at what point will fans grow tired of trusting the process if the process does not deliver silverware? Having finished the previous two seasons agonisingly close, fans are now used to sitting at the big boys' table. The pressure will be even greater to convert these title challenges into title wins - hope turns to entitlement, ambition turns to expectation. Third time will be the charm for Arsenal. This year the title is heading to North London.
Who is the best signing or has he not signed yet and who should it be?
Arsenal's transfer window has been adequate, if not underwhelming. The signing of Riccardo Calafiori will reassure, but perhaps not excite. Fans are demanding a marquee signing up front but it looks unlikely. This, coupled with the exit of Emile Smith Rowe, has caused some discontent. But fans should not forget the quality Arsenal have in Gabriel Jesus. If he can stay injury-free, and return to the standards that saw him revolutionise Arsenal's front line two seasons ago, his reinvention could negate the need to spend big on a striker.
What do you want from your manager this season?
If Arsenal do expect to go one step further, they will need to be perfect from the get-go. Last year's opening games saw Arteta experimenting with the line-up, with crucial points being dropped. This can't happen again. Only perfection is good enough. Last season Arsenal also exited both cups early, but while cup runs can be seen as a nuisance when the ultimate goal is winning the league, a strong run will be an opportunity for more rotation, and confidence in winning when it matters.
Who will be the breakout star in your squad?
A Gabriel Martinelli rebound is also a must for Arsenal. With a more fluid-looking back four, Martinelli could partner with any of Timber, Calafiori, Tomiyasu or Zinchenko, which could breathe new life into him and keep Arsenal's left side unpredictable.
What is your one major concern?
Both Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were involved heavily in England's Euros campaign, as well as playing almost every game for Arsenal last season. Arteta will need to consider how to manage their return with Arsenal facing Manchester City, Aston Villa and Tottenham in their opening few games.

Walcott began by explaining what pre-season meant to him as a player and whether results were important.

We asked for your views on Arsenal's new third kit
Here are some of your comments:
Steve: It's blue? The only colour we should not be playing in is blue.
Gabriel: Absolutely love it. It looks like the Northern Lights and with the cannon badge, I think this is a top-quality kit.
Nigel: Finally, we get away from that tragic logo which was introduced when we moved grounds. It took away the heritage. This, along with the Adidas logo is a warm nod to our history. Love it.
Charlie: One of the worst set of kits I can remember (and I go back to the 80s). All three kits awful. Very disappointing, Adidas.
Joe: Best way to top City? We steal their shirt...
Matthew: Uninspiring and dull. Avoid spending the money!
Which youngster could emerge at Arsenal?published at 17:04 12 August
17:04 12 August
BBC Sport's experts have been considering which young players may become big names this season.
BBC Sport's Alex Howell gives his verdict on Ethan Nwaneri:
There's been a lot of expectation around the development of Nwaneri since he became the youngest player in Premier League history when he made his debut for Arsenal at just 15 years and 181 days old in the 2022-23 season.
The 17-year-old made just one appearance last season in the Premier League against West Ham but hopes remain high for the midfielder.
Nwaneri started the Gunners' pre-season friendly against Manchester United in the USA and provided an assist for Gabriel Jesus as Arsenal went on to win the match.
Mikel Arteta has said Nwaneri and the rest of the young players' futures are in their own hands and they should "show what you can do" in pre-season.
If Nwaneri carries on how he has done so far, there's a chance he will be getting more minutes this season.

Arsenal 2-0 Lyon - fans' verdictpublished at 08:15 12 August
08:15 12 August
We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Emirates Cup game between Arsenal and Lyon.
Here are some of your comments:
Al: Another good run out for the lads. We're looking fit and going into the new season starting where we finished off, with goals from all areas of the pitch and plenty of chances. Some midfield reinforcements and perhaps another striker, and it's highly likely we'll stop City.
Ron: Still worried that we need a striker or finisher for all of the opportunities we create. No forward scored, so no need to say any more.
Joe: It was a really good performance and if we continue like this we will almost definitely win the league.
Helen: After being the most successful Premier League team for set pieces, it was interesting to see new routines compared to what we saw on the US tour. Martin Odegaard continues to be the creative force in midfield but Declan Rice’s contribution was much more impressive in tight spaces, especially in the final third. That is an improved aspect of his game.
Victor: We look solid and ready to go. However, the season will be a long hard one, and I do feel we still need cover for Bukayo Saka and someone killer upfront.
David: While it was great that we won the match, with two well-taken set piece goals, I worry that we didn't manage much to finish off our attacking superiority in open play. Never mind - it was a friendly match and good to see so many new young Gooners. They are the next generation of fans.
