  1. Former Norwich boss Dean Smith is unveiled in the Queen Citypublished at 10:27 20 December 2023

On this day one year ago, Dean Smith was busy preparing for what proved to be his last game as Norwich City head coach - a 2-1 defeat at Luton Town.

Since then he had an unsuccessful spell trying to keep Leicester City in the Premier League.

Smith is back in football and trying his luck across the Atlantic. He was unveiled as MLS side Charlotte FC's new head coach this week.

American fans may confuse him with a more famous Dean Smith - the one who spent 36 years as coach for University of North Carolina's basketball program winning two national championships.

English football's Dean Smith had this to say about any confusion:

"Anybody who opens Google and puts Dean Smith will probably find the UNC coach. So yeah, I've done that myself many a time.

“I believe that if I'm half as successful as he has been during his career over in Charlotte, then I'll have done a good job.”

Paul: Relieved, to be honest. This certainly feels like a win and given recent form, I’m hopeful for the festive season!

Alan: Great football team, but led by people who don’t understand the fans at all. Total disconnect with the fan-base, time to let the supporters have a voice.

Dan: Webber never should have sacked Farke. We were three years ahead of the five-year Premier League plan. He has left us in the same situation he found us, as far as I'm concerned. Now Leeds are the beneficiaries and we have a copy of Farke in Wagner.

Eliot: In all my years of following the Canaries, that was the best draw ever. Never celebrated not winning more. 14 years, 14 years...

  12. 'This is what I live for, this is what football is all about' - Rowepublished at 14:16 17 December 2023

    Jonathan Rowe at Portman Road

If you're walking around Norwich city centre doing some Christmas shopping, you may hear random shouts of '14 years!' and 'Jonny, Jonny Rowe'.

Canary fans are revelling in gaining a hard-fought point at their arch rivals Ipswich Town on Saturday and also delighted that the unbeaten run against them stretches to 14 years.

City winger Jonathan Rowe was the hero. His brace had Norwich fans dreaming of a victory at Portman Road but Wes Burns' equaliser meant the points were shared in the first East Anglian derby since 2019.

Rowe has been a revelation for Norwich this season, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances.

His goals on Saturday will have a special place in the Carrow Road history books.

Our BBC Radio Norfolk, Norwich City commentator, Chris Goreham caught up with Rowe after the game.

He said it was a special day for him: "This is what I live for, man. This is what football is all about, honestly.

"It's a good feeling and it hasn't really suck in yet. I'm happy for the boys that they put in a shift.

"Today we especially dug in, even though we conceded two goals. We came away with something today and we are in a good run of form now, the vibes are positive."

  13. 'Norwich fans right to celebrate derby day point'published at 18:53 16 December 2023

BBC Radio Norfolk's Canary Call presenter Rob Butler says he's not surprised Norwich fans are happy with a derby day draw.

"Most supporters made the trip to Suffolk expecting to see their team struggle at one of the best sides in the division, but Norwich fans are right to celebrate a derby day point.

"The Canaries showed real heart and for a few golden moments looked like they could even win the game following Jonny Rowe's heroics. It will now be at least 14 years since Town have beaten their arch rivals, for most Norwich fans the fact they didn't lose makes today's result feel like a win.

"There's been huge pressure on head coach David Wagner recently, but the team have now only lost 1 in 7 games and look like an outside bet for the Championship play-offs if they can sustain their good form.

"Will it be enough to get supporters back onside with Wagner? The signs are good for the German."

  14. Your post-match thoughts on Ipswich 2-2 Norwichpublished at 18:11 16 December 2023

    Your views banner

Here are some of your thoughts following the 2-2 draw between Ipswich and Norwich in the East Anglian derby at Portman Road:

Sophie: YES! That honestly feels like a win. It means so much to me as a Norwich fan! 2009 was the last time Ipswich beat us - that was before I was even born! So happy for Rowe - his 2 today takes him to 11 for the season and he's not even a striker. With 34.9% possession and increasing pressure from Ipswich towards the end - it feels like a win! OTBC

Rob: Big relief at the final whistle today. Ipswich were the better team but we showed good heart to come back after going behind. Bodes well for rest of the season, especially if we get our injured players back in the next few weeks. OTBC

Sophie: Thought we were going to lose today. I am so happy that we got a well deserved point. Unfortunate that Kenny (Mclean) didn't score but it was a HUGE result for us. Rowe deserves MOTM- if 2 goals in the derby doesn't do it, what will? OTBC

Norwich City hero Jeremy Goss is at Portman Road for the East Anglian derby. He will be watching the game amongst the City fans.

He's been speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk:

"There is a togetherness feeling there. It's that united feeling going on with the fans and the excitement is building and building."

  17. Your pre-match thoughts on Ipswich Town v Norwich Citypublished at 10:43 16 December 2023

    Your views banner

We asked for you pre-match thoughts ahead of the first East Anglian derby since 2009.

Here are some of the top comments:

Sophie: Good attacking threat (especially out wide with Sainz and Rowe) but vulnerable to conceding goals. I think we are an average mid-table Championship team but as always, I am optimistic. 1-1 draw in the Derby. OTBC

Graham: Does form / league position really go out the window on derby days? Come on you yellows!

Dominic: The most apprehensive ever which shows what a poor squad the people's messiah Webber has recruited. Not to mention a manager who slots players into positions they can't play. Beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 might look like a good scoreline but the sloppy defending and glaring misses sum up how a slicker side will punish Norwich. I hope I'm wrong.

Nick: As an NCFC supporter it is inevitable that 2023 will be the year that Ipswich finally beat us bearing in mind our poor form and their current form.

David: We are going to surprise everyone and win OTBC!

Maz: A win for Norwich against Ipswich, which I think is unlikely, cannot paper over the cracks. The bigger picture is that Norwich need to sort their ownership out. It’s time for Delia Smith to go.
