  1. West Ham 1-1 Tottenham: What Moyes saidpublished at 23:46 2 April

West Ham boss David Moyes to BBC MOTD:

"Both teams put an awful lot of effort into the game to try to get the winner. It was a tight game, a London derby and Tottenham are a very good side. I thought the team did a good job.

"We were a threat from open play and set-pieces. Their possession is difficult to deal with but I thought we did well defensively.

"I think we had most of the play for the first two or three minutes and [their goal] was the first time they were in the box. We showed resilience tonight. We had much more structure to the defence. We have good players up front and are not bad from set-pieces so can try to get something from it. We were a bit unlucky not to nick something at the end."

On Kurt Zouma: "He did a brilliant job on [Son Heung-min] tonight. We wanted people to stand up. We wanted some leadership and the two centre-halves played really well tonight.

"We feel as if we dropped some points last weekend but we've now taken four off Tottenham this season. If you'd have told me that before the start of the season I'd have shaken your hand and walked away.

"I'm pleased with the point because we needed it. This time of the year there is a lot of draws with so many people fighting for different things. Picking up points is never easy."

On Jarrod Bowen: "He's been marvellous for us. Every game he's top. He's a threat and is a great lad - he tries to do all the work for the team. He's in top form at the moment."

  2. West Ham 1-1 Tottenham: Key statspublished at 22:41 2 April

Here are the key facts and figures following the Premier League draw between West Ham United and Tottenham:

    • West Ham United have lost just one of their past 11 Premier League home games (W4 D6) whilst they have now won 14 points across nine London derbies this season (W4 D2 L3), their best return in such games since 2018-19 (17 points in 10 matches).

    • Tottenham have won just one of their past six away games in the Premier League (D3 L2) after winning five of their first nine on the road this season - Spurs have also failed to win on any of their past four league visits to the London Stadium (D2 L2), since a 3-2 win in November 2019 under Jose Mourinho.

    • Since the start of the 2020-21 season, only Gabriel Magalhaes (14) has scored more Premier League goals among defenders than Kurt Zouma (11), whilst only Harry Kane (18) has scored more headed goals in the competition in that time; 13 of his 15 overall goals in the competition have come via corners.

    • Tottenham's Brennan Johnson has been directly involved in six goals in his past seven Premier League appearances (three goals, three assists) whilst overall the Wales international has 12 goal involvements in 24 outings in the competition for Spurs (five goals, seven assists), one more than he managed in 41 appearances for Nottingham Forest (11).

    • Son Heung-Min made his 400th appearance for Tottenham in all competitions though he failed to score or assist for the sixth time in seven appearances away to West Ham in the Premier League (six at London Stadium, one at Upton Park).

    Have your say

Tottenham missed the chance to move into the Premier League top four after being held by West Ham at a rainy London Stadium.

Brennan Johnson's tap-in put Spurs ahead after five minutes, but they were pegged back when Kurt Zouma headed home from a corner.

Spurs were left frustrated in a game where both sides showed endeavour but lacked a cutting edge.

It means Ange Postecoglou's side remain two points off Aston Villa in fourth.

West Ham, meanwhile, stay seventh as both Newcastle and Wolves failed to win and overhaul David Moyes' side in the Europa Conference League qualification place.

Tottenham led when Johnson - brought in as one of three changes to the Spurs starting line-up from Saturday's win over Luton - turned in from close range after Timo Werner was allowed behind the left side of West Ham's defence to fire in a low cross.

But West Ham responded well, and their tactics of swinging in corners to put Spurs goalkeeper Gigi Vicario under pressure worked when Jarrod Bowen's set-piece was nodded in from five yards by Zouma.

The hosts came closest to finding a winner after the break, but Michail Antonio shot straight at Vicario after the Jamaica international had overpowered Micky van de Ven to get one-on-one with the keeper.

  4. Could Phillips return to Leeds this summer?published at 17:25 2 April

    Media caption,

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton says Kalvin Phillips "looks like a guy at the end of his tether" and the midfielder needs to find a suitable club this summer that can get the best out of him.

"There is an outstanding footballer in there," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "He needs regular game time, but where will that be?

"Maybe he will end up back at Leeds, as it is a place where he feels at home and gets full support.

"He seems like a thoroughly decent guy so for his sake, he needs to find a home again and feel wanted.

"He looks like a guy at the end of his tether and like a fish out of water."

  5. West Ham v Tottenham: Sutton's predictionspublished at 10:59 2 April

    Chris Sutton and Jimmy Brown

Chris Sutton is making predictions for every Premier League game this season against a variety of guests.

For the midweek matches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, he takes on UB40 drummer and Birmingham City fan Jimmy Brown.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-3

West Ham will still be smarting from the way they lost at Newcastle United. Hammers boss David Moyes took Michail Antonio off when his team were cruising at 3-1 up with about 20 minutes to go and, without him, they could not get up the pitch.

Antonio gave them a great outlet, but Moyes will also be furious at the late goals his side conceded.

They will be looking to bounce back here, and they will be confident because they have already beaten Tottenham once this season.

The expansive way Spurs play suits West Ham because they will be able to hit them on the counter-attack. I think Antonio was taken off on Saturday to rest him for this game, and he will play another key role here.

There should be a few goals at the other end too, though. Tottenham are just relentless going forward and wear teams down. Even if they go behind, I still fancy them to win this one.

    Brown's prediction: 2-2

  6. 'I feel so sorry for Phillips'published at 16:06 1 April

    James Jones

    West Ham fan's voice graphic

After West Ham threw away a 3-1 lead at Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, eventually losing 4-3, most of the talk has been around Kalvin Phillips' disastrous loan spell in east London.

His attempt to clear the ball from within his own penalty area inexplicably led to a Newcastle penalty, which Alexander Isak converted to make it 3-2, drastically tipping the momentum back into the Magpies' favour. It felt like there would only be one winner after yet another gaffe involving VAR, and that's exactly what happened. Put simply, it was a piece of officiating that should be used at referee school as an example of how not to officiate. It was one of the most bizarre decisions in Premier League history, which takes some doing given the current state of the supposed 'greatest league in the world.'

But it was yet another unfortunate incident for Phillips, who has not been able to use his loan spell to regain the confidence lost since signing for Manchester City. He had spoken publicly about his struggles since moving away from Leeds, so it seemed like a move away from Etihad Stadium was exactly what he needed to get his mojo back.

But it's just not happened for him. Within minutes of his debut against Bournemouth, a Kurt Zouma hospital pass led to Phillips being blamed for Dominic Solanke's opener. In the defeat at Nottingham Forest, he picked up two very questionable yellow cards in quick succession to see red. And then the failings of VAR and Premier League officiating has everyone looking in Phillips' direction once again.

A video of Phillips making an offensive hand gesture to West Ham fans after Saturday's game is a sad insight into how he feels about things, too. It is quite clear that he's struggling off the pitch, as well as on it. It must be so difficult for him after making a move that he will have hoped would revive his career.

Instead, his reputation is in tatters and he's being caught swearing at upset fans.

I feel so sorry for him. We all know how good he can be on his day, we've all seen it from his time at Leeds and with England. But perhaps this was the wrong move him, with so much expectation and pressure that comes with playing for a club fighting for a top-seven finish.

His performances in claret and blue haven't been good enough, granted, but the abuse sent his way is, in my opinion, unfair. He's clearly struggling and, in a time where we're trying to encourage men to be more open about their mental health, the events during and after Saturday's game are counter-productive to that movement.

The best thing for him is for David Moyes to remove him from the spotlight, give him the help he needs behind the scenes and for fans to get off his back.

  7. West Ham v Tottenham: Pick of the statspublished at 16:06 1 April

Here are the key facts and figures before Tuesday's Premier League fixture between West Ham and Tottenham.

    • West Ham are looking to achieve the Premier League double over Tottenham for the third time, previously doing so in 1998-99 and 2013-14.

    • Tottenham have lost three of their past five Premier League London derby matches (W2), as many as they had in their previous 19 (W10 D6). In the competition’s history, Spurs have conceded 398 goals in such games, and could be the second side to ship 400 after West Ham.

    • West Ham have conceded at least once in each of their past 10 Premier League games, shipping 24 goals in total in this run. Their 54 goals conceded overall this season is just one fewer than they shipped in the whole of last term, while only in 2010-11 (1.84) have they had a higher goals conceded per game average than their 1.8 so far in 2023-24.

    • Tottenham have won 22 points from losing positions in the Premier League so far this season, their third most in a campaign after 2010-11 (24) and 2012-13 (23).

    • West Ham’s Michail Antonio is looking to score in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since August 2021. The Jamaican has scored more goals against Tottenham in the competition than he has against any other opponent (6).

  8. Moyes on Areola injury, Aguerd return and Phillips criticismpublished at 15:13 1 April

David Moyes has been speaking to the media before Tuesday's Premier League game against Tottenham.

Here are the key lines from the West Ham boss:

    • Lukasz Fabianski will start against Spurs as Alphonse Areola has a groin injury.

    • Centre-back Nayef Aguerd has returned to training on Monday and could feature on Tuesday.

    • Reflecting on Saturday's defeat to Newcastle: "We've had a few decisions go against us in recent games, but they've gone now and we have to move on."

    • He said Kalvin Phillips is "a human being and needs support" not criticism.

    • On the midfielder, Moyes added: "We need our fans to give all our players the support they require. Kalvin's a really good player and I do believe we can still make something out of the time we've got with him here."

    • On opponents Tottenham: "They have done well this season, so it's going to be a difficult game. The manager [Ange Postecoglou] has been effective, but we believe in ourselves and we'll try to reproduce the performance we put in against them in December."

    • He said "it's a big game" in the quest for European football and he hopes to give the fans "something to shout about".

  9. Your views on Saturday's gamepublished at 10:08 1 April

    Your views banner

We asked for your thoughts on Saturday's Premier League game between Newcastle and West Ham.

Here are some of your responses:

    Newcastle fans

Sam: What a game! Harvey Barnes has come on from the bench and has proved exactly why he should be playing. Tremendous footballer. This was a game of many highs and lows and lots of changes to the team. The subs of Barnes, Anderson and especially Hall were terrific. Let's hope we can now push on and try to win as many of our last nine games as we can.

Godwyne: When Newcastle, in 2011, produced a stunning comeback from 4-0 down to earn a draw against Arsenal, I thought that was right up there. But today, to comeback from being 3-1 down against West Ham, and with multiple injuries, that’s been one of the best performances by NUFC.

Andrew: Phenomenal barely covers it! After the Livramento injury, at 3-1 down, it was like watching the Newcastle of last season! The intensity and passion we saw, was driven by the 12th man (the crowd). Let’s see this in the remaining matches, and maybe we can finish on an incredible high!

    West Ham fans

Don: We capitulated. The subs on the 66th minute cost us the game. This is why so many of us are wanting a change at the top. Instead of killing off a weakened Newcastle, we invited them to shoot at will. And they did. VAR did us no favours either.

Stanley: Once again we suffered poor refereeing as the penalty gave Newcastle the momentum. We also had Moyes putting on Phillips, who is yet to prove himself. Captain Zouma was one of our worst players again. Good attacking performance, terrible defending and terrible refereeing.

Jonathan: It was the best match I've seen all season and we really should've won it. Some people are blaming the gaffer but I can't see how he can be held responsible for two penalties being conceded and the refereeing performance. We move on now against Tottenham on Tuesday, everyone needs to get behind the team and get us winning that one.

  10. Analysis: Newcastle 4-3 West Hampublished at 15:53 30 March

After falling behind to an early penalty from Alexander Isak, West Ham looked well set to pick up three points against Newcastle for the first time since August 2021 as they moved into a 3-1 lead.

Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen all got on the scoresheet to put the Hammers in the driving seat with a two-goal cushion just minutes into the second half.

But a vocal Newcastle crowd at St James' Park played a vital role as the hosts fought their way back into game.

Isak's second from the penalty spot and two strikes from Harvey Barnes saw Newcastle claim a dramatic triumph.

It was a familiar story for West Ham as once again they were unable to stay tight at the back.

West Ham have now conceded 54 goals this season with just Luton (60), Burnley (63) and Sheffield United (74) conceding more.

The manner of defeat will also likely bring further spotlight on manager David Moyes as calls for the Scot to be sacked continue to swell.

  11. Newcastle 4-3 West Ham: What Moyes said published at 15:26 30 March

David Moyes spoke to BBC Match of the Day after West Ham's loss to Newcastle: "We did a lot of good things but didn't defend well enough. We scored some good goals and we were a threat but in the end we conceded one more goal than they did.

"We scored a minute into the second half but I don't think you can say we were in control at 3-1. As you know, Newcastle shooting down the way it is always tough. It's small margins.

"I think a couple of decisions the referee made on penalty kicks. I think the second one, [Anthony] Gordon restricts Kalvin Phillips from kicking the ball. I actually think it's the wrong decision. We had so many things that didn't go in our favour today but there were a lot of good things the players did."

On bouncing back: "It's not easy. We have lost a game when we should have won a game. In the Premier League. This is a tough place to come and for a long period we looked as though we were going to be the side who finished on top. We didn't see the job through and weren't tough enough. We had to be harder to play against and we didn't do that.

"We all learn. Football always gives you another chance to try and win and hopefully we will try and do that in the next game."

  12. Newcastle 4-3 West Ham: Key stats published at 15:03 30 March

    • Newcastle have scored 13 Premier League goals via substitutes this season, more than any other side. Harvey Barnes’ two from the bench today means he’s scored six Premier League goals against West Ham – against no side does he have more.

    • West Ham lost a Premier League match in which they led by 2+ goals for the first time since September 2016, and a 4-2 home defeat to Watford.

    • Newcastle have conceded 3+ goals in 10 different Premier League games this season, with only Burnley (11) and Luton Town (11) doing so more often (Sheffield United on 10 before their game against Fulham).

    • Only Paolo Di Canio (16 in 1999-00) has scored more goals in a Premier League campaign for West Ham than Jarrod Bowen’s 15 this term. Meanwhile, Bowen’s eight away goals is the most by a Hammers player in a top-flight season since Mike Small in 1991-92 (9).

    • Newcastle’s Alexander Isak became just the second player to score a penalty goal against two different goalkeepers in a Premier League match, after Steven Gerrard against Aston Villa in March 2009 (Brad Friedel and Brad Guzan).

    • Mohammed Kudus’ strike at 54:02 was the second latest first-half goal scored on record in a Premier League match (since 2006-07) after Trincão for Wolves against Leeds in March 2022 (55:11). It was Kudus’ first league goal for West Ham scored outside of London, with his previous six coming at the London Stadium (5) and Gtech Community Stadium (1).
