Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has said winning three consecutive constructors' titles would be the team's greatest achievement.

Only McLaren, Williams and Ferrari - who are 82 points adrift of leaders Red Bull with two races remaining - have achieved the feat.

"It would be the biggest thing we've ever done," Horner told BBC Look East.

"To win three constructors' championships in succession would be something quite remarkable."

Speaking ahead of this weekend's United States Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the season, he added: "There are only two or three other teams that have won triple constructors' championships. If we manage to achieve that we join a very elite group."

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel could also make it three straight drivers' titles, should he manage to hang on to his 10-point lead over Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.

If he does so, he would join Michael Schumacher, who won successive titles between 2000 and 2004, and 1954 to 1957 champion Juan Manuel Fangio as only the third man to win the championship in three successive years.

"If we could do it with Sebastian in the drivers' [standings] as well, it will be something we could only have dreamed of," said Horner.

"To win is one thing. To maintain front-running and winning performances against such strong opposition and drivers is something very difficult to achieve.

"It would be testimony to the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes."

Now in their eighth season in Formula 1, Red Bull have amassed 34 race wins, all of which have been provided by German Vettel and his Australian team-mate Mark Webber in the last four years.

But Horner hopes a third year on top of the pile will prove the Milton Keynes-based outfit are worthy of their success.

"If we achieve one or both championships this season then without doubt it will put us in a very elite group and demonstrates the success we have had has not been a flash in the pan," he said.

"We've won 34 grands prix, we've had more than 40 pole positions all in a relatively short space of time against huge opposition such as Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes."
