Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo makes a rare appearance at Monza, home ground for the Italian racing giant. Di Montezemolo was hoping for big performances from his drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa

The one man standing in the way of a Ferrari home victory was three-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, seen here deep in pre-race concentration

One man who knows a thing or two about winning is the legendary John Surtees, a world champion on both two and four wheels, who enjoyed a catch-up with Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner

Vettel did Red Bull proud in qualifying, clocking the fastest time and securing himself pole position. Lining up beside him were team-mate Marc Webber and Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg, who seemed as surprised as the crowd at his third place

Fernando Alonso's relationship with his team was the subject of much speculation after he was heard seemingly calling them "idiots" on the Ferrari radio. Alonso later said the word he used was "geniuses"

Lewis Hamilton admitted he had a nightmare weekend, damaging his car in qualifying and losing his radio during the race, finishing in ninth place

Away from the drivers' drama, the tifosi were out in force, turning the Monza stands into a sea of red, yellow and prancing horses

Familiar faces abounded in the garages, with Rowan Atkinson hanging out at Mercedes, and Red Bull hosting David Hasselhoff, who arrived with his girlfriend Hayley Roberts

From icons of the small screen to sporting stars, England cricketer Stuart Broad also pitched up to watch from the comfort of the Red Bull garage, while his team were being beaten by Australia at Old Trafford

The McLaren team were kitted out in snazzy retro uniforms - complete with flat caps - to celebrate their 50th anniversary in Formula 1. The outfit is stylishly modelled here by Jenson Button

Red Bull may be a long way from reaching its own golden jubilee, but there was no beating golden boy Sebastian Vettel. The German led for the entire race and secured a 53-point lead at the top of the championship

Monza's most photogenic tradition was as splendid as ever, as fans flooded the track to see Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber on the podium. Vettel may have been victorious but he was still loudly booed by the Ferrari fans, who had wanted to see their man on top

Red Bull’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey, who celebrates with Vettel on the podium, was visibly moved on the pit wall as the German crossed the finish line

Alonso may have come in second but he drew the biggest cheers, even snapping a 'selfie' with his adoring Ferrari fans in the background
