I've had a few days to reflect on my victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix and I have to say it feels like it was one of my best races. It's very difficult to pick an absolute best, because each one is so different in terms of the demands required to do well, especially over seven years with different sets of rules.

When I first started in Formula 1, I tried to ignore the fact I was the first black guy ever to race in the sport. But, as I've got older, I've really started to appreciate the implications. It's a pretty cool feeling to be the person to knock down a barrier - just like the Williams sisters did in tennis or Tiger Woods in golf.

I love it when our sport catches the attention of the wider public and gets people talking. Not just the regular racing fans who study every detail and know all the back stories. Or the guys who collect every bit of trivia about Formula 1 from back in the day. I love those diehards for their dedication and their belief in us all as racers.

Retiring from the Canadian Grand Prix has given me pause for thought about the championship. I'm still totally confident I can overhaul the 22-point advantage my team-mate Nico Rosberg has over me now, but it has become even more apparent that I need to be finishing every race.

We get up at lunchtime and go to bed at dawn. There will be times when it's 4am and I'm just sat in my hotel room waiting to go to bed.
